It is a sobering thought to realize that we're watching the leaders of American universities determine whether critical thinking-- and by extension, the #humanities --are still worthwhile investments.
Who invests in critical thinking and who invests in an AI chatbot to help you think will be really telling.

This Thursday, America Now! continues...

The session looks at various representations of Americans in other countries, & how those trips have defined America as much as they have international locales.

A billionaire could seed 50-70 local papers around the country, paying 8-10 journalists at each to cover mostly high school sports and the school board and then write op-eds with a firm liberal slant. Put it all online, don’t charge readers anything, there’s a huge audience for this everywhere

Since this whole debate is still happening, and since we are still not listening I will summarize what I understand the argument to be in the Lingua Franca of white nerds: Lord of the Rings analogies.
white cis men blocking people of color and other members of vulnerable communities because their risk factor is a lot different than ours is peak white nonsense.

It's also how I know they don't give a shit about us.

I know I’m not telling anyone anything new here, but this is a massive “Show me who you really are” moment for America’s mainstream media institutions: Faced with a naked authoritarian power grab, the Washington Post has decided to look for ways to normalize rather than oppose the regime.

1/4 What an appalling article. Like arguing that rape occurs because there’s women around to invite it. Racist attacks on people seeking asylum, the overwhelming majority of whom have done no harm, are caused by the racists who feel entitled to attack them.

One reason I'm so impatient with lefty pundits saying, "It's not our job to do messaging, it's Hakeem's job. Our job is to complain abt what Hakeem does wrong," is bc Tulsi can put out outright bullshit and have a mob of trolls turn it into the truth within hours.
Taibbi is echoing this and implying it means the HACK & LEAK operation etc. The right wing propaganda machine is claiming it’s a coup, a conspiracy, treasonous.

Russia interfered in the 2016, 2018, and 2020 elections. In the US. Elsewhere. It’s not hard.

This spin is becoming another Big Lie.

I keep seeing people say things like, “Well we’re not going to HAVE elections,” and with all due respect, I think this is both wildly pessimistic and also wildly naive.

We are not going to have free and fair elections. We also have not had them in the past.
