Donna Lieberman of @nyclu.org is absolutely right. It's vital that @governor.ny.gov sign these critical bills to protect New Yorkers' reproductive freedom, including the NY Health Information Privacy Act that I carry w/@lindabrosenthal.bsky.social.

New York City, like any local government, has no obligation to redirect its resources to take on federal immigration enforcement, let alone the cruel and lawless deportation campaign the Trump regime is waging.

@nyclu.org's full statement on the DOJ's lawsuit against NYC's sanctuary laws:

New York City's decades-old sanctuary laws have made our city safer, supported our economy, strengthened our communities, and made it easier for our people to access vital services.

Trump, Miller, and Bondi want to conscript NYC to do their bidding, but this city and our people won’t back down.

Mahmoud Khalil’s freedom makes all of us a little more free.

Whatever opinions you may hold about the issues on which Khalil speaks out, if they can detain him for his views, they can detain you for yours.

Doubt that they will at your peril.

Celebrate his release as a win for freedom itself.

Over 100 days after Mahmoud Khalil was unjustly arrested and detained because of his advocacy for Palestinian rights, he has been released on bail.

We celebrate that Mahmoud will finally be home with his wife and newborn son while his case proceeds.

Trump and his administration have made it abundantly clear that they are intent on silencing everybody who disagrees with them.

But we will not be silenced. We must always speak out to defend immigrants, democracy, and justice.

No public official should be arrested for asking questions of ICE.

Arresting a public official for asking questions is dangerous intimidation and sends an unmistakably authoritarian message – that ICE doesn’t care about the rule of law, and that anyone exercising their right to challenge ICE and speak up for immigrants will be punished.

WIN: A federal court found that there is no legitimate basis for Mahmoud Khalil’s continued detention and he must finally be released to his wife and newborn child.

This is a clear rejection of the Trump administration’s ploy to detain and deport Mahmoud solely for his political beliefs.

To pass a free and democratic world on to our children, we’re just being asked to take principled public stands, refuse to capitulate to corruption, and take collective action including with those with whom we disagree.

We owe at least that much to those who 81 years ago were asked to do far more.

This is utterly unconstitutional and unprecedented - but it is entirely consistent with Trump’s long-held desire to silence views that don't mirror his own.

Harvard's willingness to fight this governmental overreach makes me proud to be an alum.
Trump says he will revoke Harvard's tax-exempt status
The university warned that such a move would lead to "diminished financial aid for students, abandonment of critical medical research programs, and lost opportunities for innovation,"
