We're suing the city of Elmira over its unlawful zoning ordinance that blocked the construction of an affordable, supportive housing development for people with disabilities.

Every New Yorker deserves a safe and affordable place to live, and people with disabilities are no exception.
Aerial photo of Elimra, NY. The headline reads "We are suing Elmira, NY for blocking the construction of supportive housing for people with disabilities". Light brown text on a dark brown background. This quote is attributed to NYCLU attorney Gabriella Larios: "We are challenging Elmira, NY's unlawful zoning ordinance that blocked construction of an affordable, supportive housing development for people with disabilities. After initially supporting the project in early 2023, the city abruptly reversed its decision in late 2023 following neighborhood opposition that relied on harmful stereotypes about people with disabilities. Every New Yorker deserves a safe and affordable place to live, and people with disabilities are no exception. Yet, disability is the most common basis for housing discrimination complaints in our state. Light brown text on a dark brown background. The quote is attributed to Gabriella Larios, staff attorney: "By blocking construction of a much-needed supportive housing development, the city of Elmira and its mayor have turned their back on vulnerable members of their community. Elmira belongs to all of its residents, not just a handful of homeowners. We hope the court will strike down the discriminatory ordinance and allow the project to move forward."

Trump’s open interference in the DOJ’s investigation is a clear violation of our country’s long tradition of an independent judicial system.

This indictment makes it clearer than ever that the president has prioritized retaliation over the rule of law.

This indictment follows Trump’s direct instruction to U.S. AG Pam Bondi to bring charges against his list of perceived political enemies, and the forced resignation of a U.S. attorney who recently determined there were insufficient grounds for prosecution.

BREAKING: The U.S. Department of Justice has indicted Attorney General Letitia James, the latest in a long list of brazen abuses of power by Trump in his ongoing attempts to weaponize our nation’s judicial system to settle personal vendettas, attack his political opponents, and silence his critics.

ICE has bought access to an “all-in-one” surveillance tool that gives it updated location data from hundreds of millions of phones, putting us all at risk of being tracked.

The government can’t be allowed to surveil us simply for having a cell phone.
ICE to Buy Tool that Tracks Locations of Hundreds of Millions of Phones Every Day
Documents show that ICE has gone back on its decision to not use location data remotely harvested from peoples' phones. The database is updated every day with billions of pieces of location data.

Trans people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, just like anyone else.

As attacks against LGBTQ+ rights are on the rise nationwide, we won’t stand for this hatred in New York.

BREAKING: Nassau's trans sports ban has been blocked.

Just days ago, a Nassau County Supreme Court upheld the county’s trans sports ban. Today’s ruling, which comes from a higher court, bars the county from enforcing the policy while litigation continues.

NEW: We've received reports that ICE agents are unlawfully banning ALL books from entering the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility. Titles include a dictionary, religious books - even a Sudoku puzzle book.

This is a blatant First Amendment violation. The facility must change course, now.

They banned Walker.
They banned Morrison.
They banned Butler.
But we still read.

Black authors have always written truth to power. During #BannedBooksWeek, we honor their words and our right to read them.

Curly Fry, president of the Long Island Roller Rebels, our plaintiff in the case, said: “This fight is bigger than one league. It is about every trans person’s right to exist and to play. Derby has been a haven for queer and trans people, and we will keep fighting to honor that legacy.”

A Nassau County Supreme Court has upheld the county’s trans sports ban.

The ruling flies in the face of state law, which makes clear that that Nassau’s ban is discriminatory. Despite this setback, we'll keep fighting to ensure trans girls and women can play sports freely, just like everyone else.

This is a win for the rule of law.

We're challenging the Massapequa School District’s policy preventing trans students from using restrooms and locker rooms aligned with their gender identity.

All students have a right to safe, inclusive learning environments, and trans students are no different.
