Welsh Birder
Only 97 ticks for the year, but don't think I've ever had such great birds to start. Baikal Teal, Black Scoter, King Eider, Pallid Harrier, Killdeer, Surf Scoter, all downhill from here I guess.

We are enormously grateful for your support, it has enabled us to keep up pressure on the EU and Member States to honour their commitments to biodiversity and of course butterflies and moths in particular.
All of our butterfly and orchid holidays generate a donation to support the invaluable conservation work of our friends at @europebutterfly.bsky.social and @bsbibotany.bsky.social respectively. That support is important to us, and we know it's important to our guests too.

Glamorgan Birders...could you give up a few hours each year to help with the UK's most valuable bird survey.

Training event on February 28th morning at Kenfig NNR. There are lots of vacant BBS squares, even in the Kenfig area!

🌿 Attended the Caerphilly Local Nature Partnership meeting today - the first in 5 years. Great turnout and encouraging work happening for wildlife across the county.

We introduced Glo i Natur CIC and are attending LNP meetings across the Valleys over the coming months, with Merthyr Tydfil next. 🗣️

Glamorgan Birders...there are loads of vacant survey squares for the BTO Breeding Bird Survey in Neath/Port Talbot. Can you spare a few hours to improve our knowledge of our breeding birds?

I can't promise a Scops Owl, but who knows what you might find? #birdingWales

❄️ A new discovery at Cwm Tips ❄️

We’ve been visiting this site for over 10 years - and only just found this new tufa spring, frozen in winter. Formed where calcium-rich water now emerges from the tip, it’s a reminder that these landscapes are still changing.

This fantastic map overlays the underground workings of Lady Windsor Colliery (Ynysybwl) onto today’s landscape, revealing the true scale of mining beneath the Valleys and bringing our coalfield heritage vividly to life. ⚒️

Drive up to the Claunie Reservoir, beautiful in the snow. 14 inches of snow over the last few days. I'm a bit fed up of digging the car out.
