I urge others to similarly support our patriots at NIH who use their training and talents to improve human health and position the US as the world’s leader in biomedical discovery, innovation and technology development 🙏

Stanford's professor and Bethesda Declaration signatory @carolynbertozzi.bskyverified.social notes that the declaration “represents the voices of the highly trained Americans at NIH who want to serve their country and steward the biomedical enterprise.” 🧪

"The future of the US government’s premier training program for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) graduate students is uncertain after a recent scaling back of the program has led to talk that it will be essentially privatized" @policyhound.bsky.social www.science.org/content/arti...
Will NSF’s flagship training program survive under Trump?
Despite 50 Nobelists and 75,000 alumni, NSF’s graduate research fellows could be a vanishing breed

thank you. as a scientist, i have been trying to explaint to non-scientists what is happening. their response is often "i'm sorry," as if they are sorry for what may be happening to me. but i don't want sympathy for me, i would like to make them aware of the impact on our collective future.

We are still accepting applications to attend the GRC on CAZymes for Glycan Conversions. This year's theme is ‘Unlocking CAZyme Interfaces’. This is one of my favorite meetings and I am excited to be the vice co-chair elect this year. #glycotime #biochemistry 🧪

what if the great economic success of the United States over the past 80 years was not due to unfettered capitalism but rather due to sustained investment in basic science research and workforce training (as laid out by Vannevar Bush in 1945 Science: The Endless Frontier)?
doctorjj.bsky.social
We are also seeking financial sponsors. All contributions at a minimum of $500 will be gratefully acknowledged on the GRC website and throughout the meeting on PowerPoint slides. Contributions can be made at this link:

A Carbohydrates Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) will be held in conjunction with the GRC. Gordon Research Seminars are highly successful and unique meetings that enable young researchers to share in the GRC experience.

Continuing a long tradition, the 2025 Carbohydrates GRC will be held June 15 – 20 in Holderness, NH. First held in 1961, this event attracts scientists from around the world. It provides a forum for presentation and discussion of frontier research at the cutting-edge of glycoscience. #glycotime

I sincerely think that universities should suspend their productivity standards for scientists and ask them instead to hold town halls in schools, public libraries, museums, shopping malls, and anywhere else and communicate what is being lost with the collapse of the research ecosystem.
