For years, McDonald's would run a "Holiday Film Fest" with cheap vhs tapes... the 1994 batch featured Field of Dreams, Land Before Time, Back to the Future & Fievel Goes West. If you grew up with all of these tapes, I bet this was why.

Another quick trip into the past, a magazine from 1931 titled Country Home (known as Farm & Fireside prior to 1930). Geared towards rural Americans and farmers, published monthly out of Illinois from 1877-1939.

Picked it up recently at a used book store. Got to ta... see complete post
Letters from readers section, titled "Forum and Ag'in 'Em". The subheading says "Of hair restored by television, communism, sympathy, Mrs. Cook, cemeteries and official bulls." Question asked by Moxanne: I’m a noob, so I hope this isn’t a foolish, but I wanna ask anyways: how do you feel about ActivityPub? Are there any criticisms you have? How does it compare to other popular protocols? I'm not really the best person to ask, when it comes to AP I'm just a user, not a developer or moderator or contributor; had I a reason to, I'd be interested in learning more, but as it stands, I'm comfortable with just knowing other people who actually know their stuff and soaking it up. As a user, I have my annoyances with AP, discoverability is pretty bad, but once you got your feed going, it's fine, very dependent on boosts. Also there just aren't as many artists that aren't being bridged from other platforms, AP is 70% computer nerds and 29% Germans (who may also be computer nerds,) this is why I really like Wafrn, I get to stay on the platform which my artsy friends (and their artsy friends) are comfortable with (ATProto) while also being in touch with the computer nerds, without needing to convince everyone to opt into a bridge service which is a futile task. I'm also glad Wafrn is attracting artsy types. I've said it before but Wafrn, despite its quirks, is the least scary ActivityPub enabled app. Flagship instances rarely feel like they'd be so homely, but Wafrn's is, and there are lovely people and creatures there.
