We should just use standardized test scores + grades to admit students into college.

Everything else is way too easy to game, allowing the extremely rich to dominate access to prestigious colleges. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

I've been saying this for a long time, but the data makes it clear.

I agree with you, but apparently Tim did predict it and for me it was also non-surprising because I read Drew Bailey's and John Protzko's work where this is a recurring pattern. I think it's valuable work, because obviously smart people and workable theories make different predictions.

One of the giants of social psychology was a serial sexual harasser.

This new report reveals how Miles Hewstone touched, bullied, and sexual harassed numerous women during his 18 years at the University of Oxford. It's amazing how often bullying and sexual harassment go together in academia.

My wife was sexually harassed by Miles Hewstone as a phd student. He was still asked to review her (and other women he harassed) for jobs and promotions. This is so fucked up.

Thankfully, she and many other women testified against him and something was finally done. This is her take on his case:

* We should not rely on meta-analysis or Cochrane to take out bad papers, publishers should do this - do better screening before they get published.
* Some Cochrane reviews still contain works from authors in the top 10 of the Retraction Watch Leaderboard.

IRT often feels like one hot fever dream where everybody tries to hide the fact that it's just a nonlinear factor model. I had friends who weren't trained in it who essentially picked up that it had magic properties that factor models don't.
