Seeing as things are a bit busier here now; hello, I’m Barry.

I write big riffs and yell under the name Oxygen Thief

I also write sad songs and sing nicely as Non Canon

I’ve made a playlist to introduce you to both projects, give it a whirl;

Come to Exchange on 29th November, I’ll be pretty easy to find there ;)

Ah crap, no. Forgot it was happening. Have fun!

Yeah, HR had a chat. #gbbo #BakeOff
Paul's not really dishing out handies this season

218. Maruja - Pain To Power

6music-endorsed weird jazz-rap-metal. Really enjoyable in places, really "this is going to take some repeated listens to sink in" in others.

We saw a group of students dressed like that and talking disparagingly about “bolsheviks” on campus in Aberystwyth last weekend.

Couldn’t work out if they were weird Tory kids or doing some unusual role play campaign, but seems pretty obvious based on that article.

Horrifyingly the most likely reason for this is that they grew up listening to grunge because that's what their parents were into, right? rockettheband.bandcamp.com/album/r-is-f...

217. Municipal Waste, The Art of Partying

Thoroughly competent, absolutely pointless. "What if Slayer/Anthrax didn't play any solos and yelled about drinking".

216. Ash - Ad Astra

It sounds like they're having huge fun throughout, always glad to have them around - looking forward to seeing them next year.

215. Rocket - R Is For Rocket

Debut full length from real-deal shoe-grunge revivalists; some bands of this genre sound (to me) like they're copying what came before, but these sound like this kind of music is in their bones.

214. Thrice - Horizons/West

Fucking love this. Listened twice over the weekend; once driving to Aberystyth, and once walking around the town remembering what it was like to do the same in 2003/4 listening to The Illusion of Safety/The Artist In The Ambulance.

213. Gojira - From Mars to Sirius

They're obviously great, but there's something about them that stops me loving them for some reason.
dolanthology.bsky.social
212. Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil

I'm beginning to think that the Loudwire list is not actually comprised of the best metal albums of the last 25 years.
dolanthology.bsky.social
Such a shame they left before Act 2 so missed Godot materialising in a telephone box.

*fwiw, this is the best album I’ve made (so far) & I’m continuing to grow/improve as a performer, so having all that excitement and ambition smash headfirst into the harsh brick wall of the reality of How Things Are These Days is a real downer you know?

Still, onwards.

RTs, @-tagging friends in those places, ticket buying etc all hugely appreciated.

I try not to moan too much about The Absolute State of trying to musician/creative in 2025* but fuuuuuuck me it’s all uphill isn’t it?

(I’m not familiar/friends with The Meffs, but I’m sure they’re also excellent)
