Underbanks was very busy today. Great seeing it coming to life. This is how you rejuvenate the high street.

Had hoped to try the new Sticky Fingers bakery, but there was no hope of getting a table. Got a takeaway for later and went to our usual favourite Yellowhammer, which is always lovely.

Barlow Moor Road in Didsbury has to be one of the worst in the area for close passes.

So many SUV drivers who must get in front. Always end up overtaking them as they wait at the lights.

Views from the Mersey in Stockport. Can definitely see a lot more with the vegetation cut back.

The Stockport section of the Mersey river path is largely pretty good, with a decent sealed surface. Especially now the vegetation has been cut back.

But it’s let down by the stupid discriminatory barriers. Will these be removed, if the route is being upgraded?

When active travel paths next to public transport developments are an afterthought. Could be so much more useful, if it was built to be accessible by all.

Darley Avenue in Chorlton. Nice and wide, but everyone parks on the pavement.

Have you ever wondered why the car lobby is always happy to respond to environmental claims, but you never hear them talk about obesity or public health? That asymmetry isn’t accidental. It’s a strategic choice about which fights they can survive.

Once a traffic sewer, Den Haag's main shopping street Grote Marktstraat is now space for people, while remaining a key route for cycling. Shows what can be done, even in a fairly car-centric city like Den Haag.

In the latest #Netherlands25 post, join us on a ride to Den Haag #Bikesky
Netherlands 25: Riding from Duinrell to Den Haag
As the closest big city, Den Haag is a regular visit when we’re staying at Duinrell. Being just 13 km away on bike, it’s a fairly manageable ride, with multiple routes to choose from. W…

With great public transport links and multiple fantastic safe cycle routes, Scheveningen shows how you can have a big seaside resort that isn't a traffic sewer.

Riding along the seafront at Scheveningen. Space for people to walk, cycle or linger, rather than it being a traffic sewer.

“Nobody will cycle to a furniture store on the edge of town...”

Meanwhile, in the Netherlands: build high-quality cycle infrastructure to the store from the city centre, provide ample bike parking, and add e-bike charging.

Turns out, lots of people cycle to a furniture store on the edge of town.

This is what happens when streets stop being shortcuts for cars and become streets that serve communities. Design for people and life fills the space.

Avoided riding over to Carrington Moss recently, due to the amount of mud. Took the mountain bike out today and got thoroughly muddy 🧵

Ride to Altrincham today for poffertjes at Papa Dutch. Couldn’t face the mud on the TPT, so it meant riding along a frozen and very busy Bridgewater Canal.

Wish there was an alternative, that didn’t have so much conflict with people walking, it’s not great for anyone.

Poffertjes were nice tho 😋

A situation the Labour government are happy continue, by putting meagre amounts into public transport outside of the south east and not reinstating the whole of HS2 development.
If you build world-class public transport, people will use it.

Six of the UK’s most used railway stations are on the Elizabeth line, and all 10 are in London.
