An adaptation of The Eternaut debuts today on Netflix—it's based on a late 1950s-era science fiction comic scripted by visionary Argentine writer Héctor Oesterheld. I wrote about The Eternaut in 2016 for @hyperallergic.com. The new series looks promising hyperallergic.com/269426/a-pos...
A Post-Apocalyptic Graphic Novel by a "Disappeared" Argentinian Writer
It’s as if Oesterheld was telegraphing in The Eternaut the horrors that would befall him at the hands of his own repellent government.

Loved this night and love this bar. Fun to see Ladybugger Gary Olson pop up to support Dew Claw's snappy opening set, and Sloppy Heads dealt their reliably spirited garage rock w/ a rippin', fuzzed-out New Speedway Boogie too—more of these showz plz

Tomorrow (Thurs) night I’m playing drums for the only east coast appearance of Dew Claw (ex-Hypnolovewheel, XL Kings, King Missile, etc.)! James McNew from Yo LaTengo is on bass! Ira and Georgia are DJing! Not to mention Greg Cartwright solo and Sloppy Heads!! All at Mama Tried in BK, 6:30pm! Go!!

Hewing really close here to Season 1 of The Wire and Detective Pryzbylewski's character arc. But I suspect this guy won't end up caring about disadvantaged students.

People have been running schools, writing stories, writing plays, and composing music for millennia, and suddenly no can imagine how those things are possible without AI.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

I got an email today asking if I want to be part of a class action suit over Film Forum supposedly overcharging patrons for online ticket fees, and filing a class action lawsuit over online ticket fees is the most “regular Film Forum patron” behavior I’ve ever seen in my life.

Enjoyed Ty Segall dorking out on his digging habits here—don't know the 100% Unknown Fibers boot but seems like it cost him significant coin per the sold eBay listing/Discogs listings. And yes, grab all (or most of?) the Fever Tree you can www.discogs.com/digs/feature...

Few Chicago DJs have garnered the kind of mythical status of Lee Collins, who issued few recordings of his own but whose skills behind the turntables earned him international praise. I talked to eight different people about his life and legacy for the Reader.
Farewell to undersung house and disco maestro Lee Collins - Chicago Reader
Lee Collins was a DJ’s DJ, with an ear for obscure tracks that could drive parties into a frenzy on both sides of the Atlantic.

I couldn’t agree more. Every time someone is talking about Kind of Blue, I’m like “you’ve gotta hear this soundtrack”
