Independent comics as an industry would barely exist these days without the tireless efforts of Kickstarter's staff behind the scenes. As they advise, keep supporting all the amazing projects you already are, but have their back in the process.

A codified 4-day work week.
We simply want to protect the way we've been working for over 3.5 years. The 4dww has proven benefits, such as increased productivity and improved employee satisfaction. It's part of what makes Kickstarter a special, innovative place to work.
Fair pay for our lowest-paid workers.
We're fighting for livable minimum salaries for roles that are undervalued by the market but crucial to keeping Kickstarter running. We believe none of our workers should struggle to make ends meet. Creators

I know the KLF could find a better use for that money than what CBS is doing now

I wish I'd had this when I was teaching first-year writing and I think I need to share it with all the ESL teachers I used to work with

Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.
A post by Rebecca Johnson:
“I finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert "by zombies" after the verb, you have passive voice.”

A tumblr respond from mightymur:
“The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
"She was killed [by zombies.]"<--passive
"Zombies killed [by zombies] her." <-- active”

Moonflow is compulsively readable and provides the visceral thrill of grabbing a horror novel from the paperback spinners at the library. I'd sit down to read it and find an hour had passed without me even noticing. The best kind of fun

hey we have some fun around here but seriously if you are unaware you should know i do in fact have a book out and it's good. check out MOONFLOW, the cool book for hot people, from your local book retailer or dispensary www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/bitte...

Oh! One of the characters is now cursed with lycanthropy *and then they were taken by the mists.*
I'm sure nothing bad will happen as they search for a cleric to cast Remove Curse. There are plenty of those there, right?

Ran my first ever #dnd5e game. Starting simple: #CurseofStrahd. Followed @slyflourish.com's advice and had an action scene for a strong start: fight a werewolf.
Fight took the better part of 2 hours and the most damaging attack was by one PC nat 1'ing and hitting another PC instead.
Promising start!

I'm consistently stunned by the streamers' misapprehension of their business. They think they are IP generators; they are video stores.
If only one place has Superman, I'll go there once to rent it, and then spend all the rest of my money at the place with all the other things I want to watch

These are awesome and folks should jump on them for Halloween. I got one last year and it's fantastic

Wrote a piece about my experience at #Anthrocon this summer for @sailorspaceraptor.bsky.social's Scared City Project.
Feels good to be writing again. Maybe I'll finally get around to doing that long essay on Yoon declaring martial law

Everything I hear about it makes it sound great. The journalists covering it seem to be in pieces. The acts are a real cut-up

October has arrived! 🎃
Colored sketch of a Halloween scene. A pumpkin ghost floats along a pumpkin patch followed by some mice.

Made the mistake of looking up adoptable dogs. My apartment doesn't allow pets, I'm unemployed, and I may not remain in the country long-term. But goddamn, there are some senior pups that need a couch to snore on!

I also think their approach, instead of trying to copy a movie that was an adaptation of a second person's dream, was to place the story in the world and moment that would induce those dreams

And so many conversations are held in mirrors. Characters are talking, but you're not looking at the speaker, you're looking at their reflection speaking. You see the action, but it's not the actual action.

I only saw it when it was in theaters, but I need to rewatch it. I liked it a lot and think it's built around dualities. So many binaries and crossings in the movie, even in the idea of it being a remake, so that there's the original in your mind the whole time you're watching this.

You may have access to it through your library via Kanopy. Even if your library does offer Kanopy, it may not have subscribed to the package with Exhuma.
It is on Korean Netflix if you have a VPN, but I don't know if it'll have English subs. It was Korea's #1 film of 2024 so it might

Meanwhile, immediately following this post:
A Bluesky post from The Korea Herald.
The post reads "NEW YORK-US investment firm BlackRock and the South Korean government will work together to set up a "hyperscale" data center hub in Asia's fourth-largest economy, with the aim of completing the project in a decade, according to the presidential office on Monday."
The headline it links to reads "S. Korea, BlackRock agree to set up 'hyperscale' data center hub to meet Asia-Pacific AI demands"

Wait, the film which is about the harms AI can do to a person and their field uses AI?

I'm feeling a little less uncomfortable about not wanting to engage with Park's work after he got expelled from the WGA for being a scab
