Updated the calendar because, somehow, I shoved another book into October at the last minute.

Independent comics as an industry would barely exist these days without the tireless efforts of Kickstarter's staff behind the scenes. As they advise, keep supporting all the amazing projects you already are, but have their back in the process.

A codified 4-day work week.
We simply want to protect the way we've been working for over 3.5 years. The 4dww has proven benefits, such as increased productivity and improved employee satisfaction. It's part of what makes Kickstarter a special, innovative place to work.
Fair pay for our lowest-paid workers.
We're fighting for livable minimum salaries for roles that are undervalued by the market but crucial to keeping Kickstarter running. We believe none of our workers should struggle to make ends meet. Creators

My fan cover for Montgomery LaMontgommery's upcoming book, finally spotlighting the most upstanding gentleman in all of Gath. THANK YOU for Wealwell @brennanleemulligan.bsky.social, @dimension20.bsky.social. He is everything I've ever wanted - nay, needed - and more.

A faux book cover cartoony illustration in brown and teal tones. It shows the Cloudward Ho! cast in a heroic tableau: in the background, Olethra is happily steering the MechLeod, and Daisuke is up on a cliff, aiming a rifle towards centre frame; closer to the viewer are Van on the left, blowing her bosun whistle with tentacles a-tentacling, and Maxwell Gotch on the right, looking a bit unsure about what's happening; closer still are Monty on the left, holding his notebook and looking sagely off-frame, and Marya on the right, holding a huge wrench close to her chest and staring forlornly off-camera. And in the centre and the foreground, looking directly at the viewer, is the lithe, handsome, elegantly poised figure of Wealwell Gotch, hair golden, moustache curled, dressed in a fine teal suit and resting his hand on a katana. The top reads "Montgomery LaMontgommery", and the bottom "Where There's A Weal There's A Well".
The original designs for the Cloudward Ho! cast are by the wonderful Cait May.

new Star Trek Adventures ttrpg book alert! this one’s all about the 23rd century, and @susanlbridges.bsky.social and i contributed to this one too!

here’s a couple of my favorite bits we did, for Captain Rachel Garrett (🩷) from TNG and Ensign Sylvia Tilly (🩷) from DISCO

🖖
.: SACRIFICE
FINAL PERSONAL LOG, CAPTAIN RACHEL GARRETT, U.S.S. ENTERPRISE-C
The Enterprise is moments away from returning to our time, where we will perish in defense of a small Klingon outpost. One ship, completely outmatched, could become the spark that ignites the fire of a Klingon-Federation alliance that could bring stability to the Galaxy. But we can't know for sure.
My crew knew what we signed up for—the possibility of giving our lives in hope of a better future. Yet we all decided to make that sacrifice, because we believe in the Federation and everything it stands for.
Because we believe in that better future.
Please don't squander it. .:IS THIS WHO WE ARE?
PERSONAL LOG, ENSIGN SYLVIA TILLY, U.S.S. DISCOVERY
I'm in the Command Training Program. Me! And I'm an ensign! And I was awarded the Medal of Honor! The weight of it is really something. Metaphorically, I mean.
The medal isn't really heavy. Is it? I could weigh it.
The thing is, I should be so happy, right? And I am! But all of that happened because we're finally at peace, and that only happened under the threat of violence when we gave Chancellor L'Rell a bomb. Not me personally.
And that was an actual bomb. Not metaphorical.
I just wonder...is that the best we could've done?
And what does it say about us if it was?
longtalljodie.com
Oh no, please don't make me also want this.

Mores the pity.

But also, I just want more Matthew Sweet in my guitar games.

The Post-Crisis / Byrne era of Superman comics was a period that really pushed the idea of Metropolis being a real-life big city (lots of empty fast food wrappers on the ground, etc) and nobody but nobody executed that better than Jerry Ordway. His DC universe was a place with Starros AND Sbarros

Superman, by Jerry Ordway & Anthony Tollin, from 1991’s Who’s Who In The DC Universe.

Many artists have created splendid takes on The Man Of The Steel. But few can equal Ordway, whose Superman always feels thoroughly authentic and nigh-on definitive.

I'm personally offended that Fortnite Festival is including the theme from WHAT'S NEW SCOOBY DOO and not the Matthew Sweet cover of SCOOBY DO WHERE ARE YOU.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

DC in particular feels like they simply Do Not Give A Fuck right now, and I love that for them.

I wish it wasn't so dark inside, but I dig the overall design! Also, I liked the rechristening, I thought it was cute. So I've got no beef with either!
