The Spirit of '92 incarnate. Hippie ideals, punk attitude, and a grunge wardrobe.

REMINDER: I don’t fucking work for you.

Besides everything else, the CBS shit is absurd because EVEN THE FOLKS THEY'RE TRYING TO PANDER TO don't want to watch this shit.

It's on par with centrist Dems thinking they can "win over" imaginary moderate Republicans. They're trashing the remnant value of an already troubled asset for nothing.

I love the PC98 aesthetic, which was the result of needing to display Japanese characters clearly on a monitor. Higher res than Western displays but with reduced capacity for animation and scrolling.

It's partly why visual novels coalesced into a big thing -- a perfect fit for those parameters.

"Melania calls for unity."

Don't worry, sister. If there's one thing everyone in America seems to agree upon, it's "avoid that turdburger of a movie."

Gate of Souls is a 1993 metroidvania for Japanese computers in which you play as Dante jumping and bashing his way through the circles of Hell with a weaponized crucifix, made by the folks who brought you Nobunaga's Ambition.

I feel this PC98 game was made with @keithpille.bsky.social in mind:

Fire Live, from one of Compile's Discation Station mags.

It's a simple, Balatro-ish card battle game where you are a vocalist who must defeat various opponents to add them to the lineup of your band.

Look, I think recomps are groovy as hell, but there are a LOT of misconceptions about the process and amount of work involved.

It's not simply decompiling a game and getting a PC port. The decomp process is time intensive, and then someone has to take the results and recomp them for PC, etc.

latest retrogame obsession:

Ceramic Ball (1996, PC98) - a minigame from one of Compile's Disc Station magazines.

A simple but addictive physics puzzle where you use the numpad direction keys to guide said ball to its goal.

If you are a Japanese retrocomputer freak like me and use the Neko Project 21/W emulator:

Device > Sound Option... > JoyPad tab > Use JoyPad-1

If you want to use the d-pad instead of the analog stick, click the "POV -> X-Y Axis" radio button.

Made a pot roast and experimented a little by adding some red wine and Old Bay to the recipe.

(The latter isn't *that* experimental, because I usually season with a mix of paprika, salt, and pepper anyhow.)

The double-edged sword of unearthing more Late Night with Conan episodes from early 1994:

One one hand, they are rarer than hen's teeth and are truly bizarre in a DGAF way

On the other, the question whether it would even last a season meant they had to settle for a lot of grotty guests.

The narrative problem with all the Whedon and post-Whedon tics is that they’ve become as —if not even more — predictable than the cliches they were a response to.

I should not be thinking “yep, I know where this is heading” during every story beat, and turn out to be right each time.
James Gunn really has to start letting someone who’s listened to music this century choose his film music.
