There are a bunch of REALLY interesting ideas throughout, but they utterly failed to execute those ideas properly because they were too concerned with paying tribute to the Original Trilogy and it's cast

What's the coolest anime weapon?
IMO, it's the caster gun from Outlaw Star, a combination of a sawn-off shotgun and a grenade launcher that fires bullets that some Taoist mage slapped a talisman on. It's strangely incredibly sensible as a weapon.

I'm a big fan of Cloud Atlas, both the book and it's movie adaptation, and frankly, ANY/ALL of David Mitchell's books would work well as limited series as they are generally split into parts that would translate well into an episodic format
