That's some way to start the day...
I've seen this happen when you type something that it thinks it's a url, like "up.orange" (without the quotes) and then maybe fix it.

The preview it created and attached remains, even if you altered the text later, because it's a separate embed for the post.

Gotcha. I’d never read this person before.

I am known for going on about how natural wine is for people who are cider drinkers but wish it had more alcohol and still… that piece made me want to white knight it.

I guess if they were optimising for engagement, they got my click.
Also the piece annoyingly conflates orange with natural and, while a lot of orange wine *is* natural, there is some low-intervention, consistent quality orange wine that natural purists would thumb their nose at.

So it not only comes across as invective, but ill-informed.
Campo Altoso by Louis Montemagni (2024) - 3 ⭐

Flowers, pricot, and lots of it, peach nectar, cirtrus. Salt on a homemade boar paté made it pop.

White Wine from Corsica

Look up Floris van Bommel. Dutch shoe maker. Great vibrant styles and fine craft for much less than that.
Bandol by Domaine Lafran-Veyrolles (2022) - 3½ ⭐

Light licorice, wormwood, herbs - mint? Dark velvet as it opens up.

Lighter than I expected, given the 14% and the Bandols I’ve had recently.

Nice, but hard to justify the €30 price.

La Bastide Blanche by Domaine La Bastide Blanche (2020) - 3½ ⭐

Well, that has a character! Plums, prunes, shoe polish, licorice, dark chocolae. Dark and stormy.

Red Wine from Provence

I just discovered it myself in Marseille- I need to try more!
Finca los Quemados by García Georgieva (N.V.) - 3½ ⭐

Cherry, raspberry, something nice and spicy. A Clarete. Had it by itself, late in the night, but it would be a perfect pairing for a tuna tataki.

Clarete Wine from Extremadura

La Bergerie by Clusel-Roch (2022) - 3½ ⭐

Pineapple, ash, sweet pineapple, then some unexpected peaches and cream, something floral when mixed it with the creamy dish I had it with. Aligoté, even if Winesky says it’s Voigner.

White Wine from Rhône

Champagne Coquard-Bour Brut Blanc de Blancs by Coquard-Bour (N.V.) - 3 ⭐

Bone, apple, with something salty on the back. Crisp and direct Blanc de Blancs.

Only had a glass and I don’t know the bottle price. May adjust rating after I have an opinion on value.

I'd never tried it before - I'm afraid I don't have nearly as much exposure to French wine. I need to work on that.
...drinkable, with no imperfections.

It wouldn't be my go-to vermentino, but I'm impressed by what they got out of a natural wine, 2/2

Sambrena Bianco di Toscana by Tenuta La Novella (2023) - 3½ ⭐

Chilled apricots, green pears, something oily like a software version of the bergamot oil my mom used to use.

I wouldn't have known it was a natural wine hadn't they told me - it was surprisingly... 1/2

...Perfect for a bonito puré. When paired with the bonito, it tastes almost like a dryer, chill Albariño. 2/2

Émerade de Malijay by Famille Deltin (2024) - 3 ⭐

Lime, zesty with just a hint of sweetness. A slight floral smell, although I might be imagining as I just leaned that they grow flowers too.... 1/2

Peyre Blanche by Famille Perrin (2023) - 3½ ⭐

Black currant, something floral, dark plums, something vegetably and herbal and minty. Went great with a pâté de campagne. I’d say 3.5 by itself and 4 with the pairing.

Red Wine from Vallée du Rhône

In Augusto’s case we settled on 30 for red, 40 for white - which was also what the lady there had recommended.

Of course they’d know their own stuff well, but what stuck with me was how she stopped me from upselling myself.
Domaine des 2 Ânes Les 10 Ânes Blancs by SCEA Roux-Terrier (2024) - 3½ ⭐

Lime, lemon, sweet lime, stone. Lively, fruity, tasty, fresh.

Makes you nostalgic for summers past.

Château de Luc Rouge by Famille Fabre (2023) - 3 ⭐

Black currant, cranberry, bit of pepper. Juicy with just a hint of chocolate.

Shiraz, Grenache, and others.

Going with a 3, but it had been open for a while - I’d need to judge a fresh bottle.

I do not! I keep thinking about getting one. The danger is that might lead to my searching for - and likely getting - more expensive, harder to find stuff.
Extra points for honesty and not trying to oversell me. After a few, I decided to go to the top and ordered a 40 y/o red - the woman we were talking to suggested the cheaper 30 was better than the 40.

Tried them both and she was right.
Tiny place in Porto. Discovered it by coincidence while walking by, went in for a tasting on a lark, and loved it.

Their 30 year old red and 40yo white were glorious.
I don’t think I got to try a 2011 LBV, but Augusto’s 2013 was sensational.
