My latest col for @timatkinmw.bsky.social is out: red #wine sales are falling - so winemakers need a plan. I visited several Spanish wine regions - Valdeorras, Bierzo, Ribeira Sacra - that have a strategy. But plenty there and elsewhere don’t. Burgundianisation or bust? timatkin.com/spanish-stra...

Christmas trees should not be up at the time of the Autumn Budget.

I feel very strongly about this. Either curb your enthusiasm and don't put the trees up til December, or have the Budget in actual autumn. I don't mind which*, but red boxes and fairy lights do not mix

*the answer is obviously both

Meanwhile, in Britain we're about to have a vitriolic debate as to whether a £1.50 per night tax on a hotel room will totally destroy tourism or not.
The Interior Department has announced it will charge $100 per head for non-US residents to visit the most popular 11 national parks.

Stupid and self-defeating. Millions have visited those parks and left with with affection for America. No more, except those who can afford $400 per family per park.

Spare me this AI wine hype

New from me in this month’s Wine Merchant mag: as the UK wine trade faces the impact of the Extended Producer Responsibility scheme, I argue that it’s time for independent merchants to get involved in discussions over the #sustainability of #wine packaging (see pp 50-51) issuu.com/winemerchant...

This is one of the most damning videos I’ve ever watched of Farage.

He essentially admits being racist at school - only says he didn’t do it “with intent”.

The quiver in his voice at the end - he knows he can’t squirm out of this one.
“I would never ever do it in a hurtful or insulting way”

Nigel Farage responds to allegations of racist behaviour from when he was a teenager at school

He has enjoyed being a Lord though.
