Programmer, game developer, artist, composer, retro games, modern games. Starts many projects, completes very few. Unexplainably strong interest in the mundane.
The reason I don't like sports is because I'm envious that there's something a LARGE amount of people get ultra-excited about (and everyone just accepts it), there's tons of people in on it, and I've never found anything like that for myself; anything I'm excited about is usually a just-me thing.

Started Mario Galaxy 2.
"Did they really design this boss so you have to shoot and hope you picked the side he's going to dodge towards?"
They totally designed this boss so you have to shoot and hope you picked the side he's going to dodge towards.

[Turns straight to the camera, sighs, shrugs with a goofy smile]
Well, here we go again! [laugh track]
[Freeze frame and credits appear, funky outtro sting plays, applause]
[Flagrantly 90's production logo and jingle appears]
Don't go far! We got another episode coming right at 'cha!

[Playing Mario Galaxy 1]
"Oh hey, I can think of how to make my music engine do these dynamic coin jingles (and the other effects)."

"I think I know how to do the dynamic gravity too."

I don't know how to check if your 2D cursor is overlapping something in 3D space, though, but I can find out.

All done with the Swedish course on the owl app; it took 297 days to complete.

Almost 300 days later, I'm half-way through the very last section of Swedish on the owl app.
One of the sentences in it is, "Congratulations! You've completed the Swedish tree!", which means this course is probably very old. :P
(The courses haven't been trees in ages)

Wait, you *don't* have a spreadsheet listing all of the songs you grew up with and are nostalgic for?

(Playing with YM2151 settings)
"Huh, this sounds the way a slice of cheesecake looks."
(I was trying to make a piano sound)

I started poking at the history of Yamaha's FM synthesis again, and it always makes me excited in the same geeky way each time.
I'm wondering if I prefer the OPL only because that's the one I'm familiar with. Like, if I grew up in Japan, would I prefer the OPN instead?

I had this weird dream where my scientific calculator suddenly couldn't multiply anymore because it didn't have the necessary license to use multiplication; it put up a snarky message on the screen instead. Dream-me then tried to smash it on the ground, but impressively, it took zero damage.

I had a weird mind-blank moment where I was completely unable to say "this seems more like what I'd be supposed to do".

Like, "would be supposed to" just kept sounding wrong for some reason, even though I think(?) it's correct, or at least passable.

...and English is my native language. :|

Someone mentioned that the "3-2-1-Flip" stages in Mario 3D World would be ridiculously hard to implement in a game. I think it's more straightforward than it seems, like once you know what to look for, you'll be able to think of solutions to implement it.

What if preroll ads only played after you watched a minute or so of the stream? Asking because, I wanted to click on a stream to see what was going on in it (it was sidebar-only, not showing in my "following" page, so no thumbnail or any info), and it's 60 seconds of ads beforehand. :\

I feel bad because I got upset at something earlier today, and when I ran the tape back, it was absolutely not worth getting upset about. What happened wasn't even what I thought happened. I'd love if I didn't do things like that.

It still bothers me that even though computers freely and enthusiastically shipped with the necessary tools to make a drawing, or to write a story, they didn't also ship with tools to create music or animations; those were always separate and you had to pay for them.

As a grown-ass adult reaching his 40s, I've come to terms with the reality that my highschool/college era dream of working in the game industry just isn't a good idea.

But, it's because the "game industry" I want isn't real; it's a romanticized version of garage-coding from the 80s.

I don't like how "opt out" means "we'll keep asking you repeatedly", and the uncertainty of whether "not being around to click 'opt out'" will be misinterpreted as opting in.
I'm wondering if these designers were who those "no means no" posters in college were for.

What do you *mean* when I get older I won't be able to reach certain spots on my back? I'm actually going to need to get a back-scratcher? I can't believe this, is this what I signed up for?

I hum to myself a lot, in many cases while I'm trying to think of new songs. The problem is, lots of my favorite music doesn't seem to have a melody-first composition (like humming would be), but rather the underlying infrastructure of the song is developed first, then the melody after.

Everyone has their own idea of what "cozy" is. Mine is to sit down at my "creation station" sitting in an alcove of a room, where I have the tools to make whatever I want, like drawings, music, etc. Even better if there's a panel of gadgets, knobs, and switches to play around with.

I've had the idea, a couple of times, to take some college courses (or something) for electronics, so I can refresh my ability to read and build schematics, and better understand the math and engineering involved in their design.
But then I remember, that's expensive and I have a day job. :\

I think the victory conditions for board games is usually based on how long they want the game to last.
For example, if you have a simple game where you roll two dice, and just add that value to a running total, you can set a goal based on how long you want to be playing.

In SMB1, is Princess Peach being shuttled from castle-to-castle as Mario approaches, or is she in the world 8 castle the entire time, and Mario's just having bad luck with the castles he's checking?
Probably the latter, right? Otherwise, taking the warps wouldn't make sense.
