Aficionado of niche sports. Inveterate bookworm. Big fan of fermented things. Bearded scientific sort.
Massive keep in mind when it comes to videos you see.
The AI videos still have the object permanence problem. Once an object is obscured the AI loses them and the replacement object just isn't the same.

I am sure in the near future this tell won't be as obvious but it's why I have started watching teeth in human videos.

I love the JBB story for a few reasons:
- stringing 120 miles of wire
- months of analzying paper roll data
- her PI was like "that can't be right, do it again," the motto of PI's everywhere.
- rare case of a landmark discovery becoming ubiquitous in popular culture for no particular reason

Beautiful little vignettes.🧵
🧵Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand:

A woman (30s?) is demonstrating to a small human (3?) how to use a yo-yo.
She's particularly adept at old school yo-yo tricks like:
"The flail"
"The dangle" and the
"That was intentional, honest."
Small Human is VERY impressed. (1)

Today is the 56th anniversary of the first performance of Mahna Mahna on Sesame Street. You’re familiar with it by now, of course, but... well, it never hurts to be reminded, does it?

I had the privilege of conducting some labor law inspections at farms in Imperial Valley back when I worked for the Labor Commissioner, and the skill and speed on display always floored me
This Monterey Mushroom facility has a strong union contract. The good union wages and benefits make for low overturn, which makes for extremely skilled workers like this.

Embrace the classics.

Ignore the inanity.
No matter what happens for some of you tomorrow, go back to this. It's the touchstone that will recenter you. Uncle Ed stats spouting bullshit conspiracies? You can come back to this. Grandma shares somethings from Fox News? Come back to this.

If you work in an industry where you need to know the bar *code* even if the barcode is unreadable the numbers and letters are written below so you can manually enter them in an emergency.
just watched the latest episode and i feel like i should make a public service announcement about the nature of barcode scanners

Barcode scanners are just weird looking keyboards where instead of typing you scan things.

barcodes just decode to some numbers and letters

"So, intelligent. Why?"

Wouldn't be the first time that someone swept the legs out from under self-proclaimed visionaries whose real talent is exploiting anything they can until the body slam comes.

World's too small to be that dickish indefinitely absent consequences.
i think tech and ai positive people are going to be in for a big shock when anti tech and anti ai sentiment becomes a major part of leftwing politics going forward especially as datacenters continue to destroy communities and raise electricity bills
Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?

Meta, YouTube, TikTok and Snapchat know how addictive their platforms can be to teens.

Those are allegations a group of school districts is making against the social media giants, according to a newly unsealed legal filing that quotes the companies’ own internal documents. https://cnn.it/3Xjq5x5

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

I miss coffee club/klatch skates.

It was nice having that two hour block on Friday mornings to skate with adults and adults only.

Unrelated, I think I need to either wear my skates around the house again or get 'em rebaked...

Is it that hard to take 64 cells worth of VLS, two CIWS/RAM, two sets of torpedo tubes and a medium caliber gun, scatter 'em around a hullform and then plop a helo deck somewhere?
