Welcome new Bluesky folks!

I'm Titus, an aquatic ecologist and fisheries specialist with Wisconsin Sea Grant. I work on all things #GreatLakes and freshwater from teaching 6th graders on a beach, surveying fish in a coastal wetland, or getting seasick on a commercial fishing boat!

Some interesting tidbits from WI Am Fisheries Society chapter meeting.

New technology, like expensive forward-facing sonar, don't necessarily increase catch rates and might decrease angler satisfaction due to unmet expectations.

There are about 532,938 acres of #GreatLakes coastal wetlands - some 833 square miles - that provide habitat for nearly 80 species of fish species at some point during their life cycle. Yellow perch, pike, and bass all often start out their lives in these nurseries! #WorldWetlandsDay

Paul Florsheim was found guilty of trespassing by Shorewood Municipal Court which cited a 1923 ruling requiring the public to keep their feet wet on the shore.

The Center comments on the rights co-existing on the disputed beach area & the need for clarity by a higher-level court.
At issue in Great Lakes beach access: constitution vs. court rulings
If the case reaches the state Supreme Court, it would no longer be about Shorewood, but about Wisconsin shorelines along lakes Michigan and Superior.

Lots of ice on the Great Lakes right now, especially Lake Erie. 33% overall, but can increase with cold weather.
