So many ideas today at the British Academy conference on communicating #airpollution.

Some great highlights in @peteknapp.bsky.social 's thread from the day....
peteknapp.bsky.social
At this conference about communicating air quality, @andygrieveair.bsky.social said “we aren’t expecting any fire alarms, but there is a gentlemen’s club next door with fireplaces and cigars (audible gasp) so if you smell smoke it’s probably them”

I love these guys.

Totally - we’re looking at ways to scale up and out, eg deployment via the health service
drheatherprice.bsky.social
@marianeira.bsky.social from WHO - we need to think more about marketing in relation to air quality - eg influencers to mobilise attention, Mums (and Dads!) are powerful in this space, need to frame it as a health problem

Karine Léger from @airparif.bsky.social talking of the challenges of ‘science as an opinion’ and the rise in fake news in the air pollution world
drheatherprice.bsky.social
@drgaryfuller.bsky.social highlighting issues with air pollution limit values, considered as a ceiling to pollute up to and the idea that below this is safe and above you should do something. Also moving from doom & gloom towards a positive vision of what a healthy air future could look like.
drheatherprice.bsky.social
Super excited to be here today and to be presenting alongside so many interesting folk. Looking forward to a day of discussing air pollution communication 📣

We've seen in Scottish villages that people believe traffic is the main air pollutant. However, it's when people look at their local #AirPollution data and see evening peaks in particulate matter that their perceptions begin to change.
drheatherprice.bsky.social
Yes, totally. That's why projects like Forth-ERA where we're monitoring #AirQuality in smaller cities, towns and villages is important, too #Stirlingshire #Clackmannanshire www.stir.ac.uk/about/scotla...

Great to see Starmer acknowledge children shouldn't breathe air pollution.

"I don't want my children breathing dirty air."

But the Govt is failing. 99.8% of schools in England are in areas where fine particulate pollution is above safe levels 🧵
