2 wondering how that kind of fits with the 8:54 government's future gas strategy which 8:55 states that natural gas will be needed 8:57 to 2050 and beyond a fossil fuel. 9:00 Well, it is needed. It's a part of the 9:02 transition uh which is occurring. What 9:05 you need uh to back up renewables is 9:08 firming capacity. That's what's enabling 9:10 the investment to occur and uh all of uh 9:14 the energy experts. So the cheapest form 9:18 of transition is renewables backed by 9:20 gas, backed by hydro, backed by 9:23 batteries. That's Australia's position. 9:25 But this statement, we're told, is the 9:27 strongest language on phasing out fossil 9:29 fuels that Australia has ever supported. 9:31 So if we're talking about signing up to 9:32 international declarations, on phasing 9:34 out fossil fuels, but acknowledging that 9:35 we're still going to be needing natural 22 that now that you've signed up to this 10:23 declaration that there'd be movement on 10:25 tapering off coal exports or gas exports 10:28 or or gas in general? You're saying 10:30 that's not the case? 10:31 No. Okay.

NEW: I have been told "negotiations are ongoing". And, as far as I am aware, there has been no reporting in Turkish media announcing a win on the COP31 bid, as you would expect.

Again, this is not to say the report won't be proven true by events but so far, there's been no confirmation either way.

Sometimes during COP, we forget there is a real world out there. News from Groningen about a 3.4 magnitude earthquake. It's where Exxon and Shell extracted gas irresponsibly for decades and have now filed a case against the Dutch government for closing the gas field

The federal government only wanted to help South Australia with the algal bloom if it did not require new funding despite being briefed that an estimated 250k marine animals had been killed, new documents obtained through FOI reveal.
