My latest pre-print is out:

"Pareidolic Illusions of Meaning: ChatGPT, Pseudolaw and the Triumph of Form over Substance"

I really enjoyed this one, where I juxtapose LLMs & pseudolaw to argue both create illusions of meaning that trick users.

Please help me get the word out about the new websites for Legal Theory Blog and the Legal Theory Lexicon. Reposting here and on other social media sites is great. It would be especially helpful if law school faculty members could send an email to their colleagues with the new addresses.

Probably the best performance I ever delivered.

Fire alarm went off mid-performance. Didn't flince or drop character for the whole 10min delay - just quietly pottered around. Alarm fixed i picked up without pause. Moderator gave me perfect score!

Spoooooool

Quietly delighted that Beckett is today's Main Character (or close enough).

My absolute favourite playwright. I performed Krapp's Last Tape as my Yr 12 Drama solo. Had a genuine reel-to-reel as perfect prop.

Still cannot see the word "spool" without lingering over it. SPOOOOL.

Apparently there is a brief air guitar as a nod to Bill and Ted!!

I mean, it's tradgi-com! And having some toff fork out $$$$ to miss the point is almost performance art itself
drjoemcintyre.bsky.social
Please dont do it.

Beckett is so alert to human experience, so very relevant to loss of agency, the chaos of to day. I am delighted when Godot is in mention.

The ChatGPT version is ***SOOOO*** much worse than you can imagine

This review made my day. Beckett would have been delighted.

Honestly can't tell difference between a troll and a factual story any more.

I mean this is ... plausible?

Hadn't come across this incident, thanks. This is vintage pseudolaw- attempts to 'arrest' judges not uncommon, but rarely to level of kidnap.

Been a very significant increase in threats to judges (eg 50% growth in last year)
drjoemcintyre.bsky.social
Lol. Yeah, you are right. The same fantastical "law will save us all"...

Pseudolaw beliefs may be consistent with, and in some cases exacerbate, extremism. But more akin to a set of intellectual tools than may be used to support other conspiracy and anti-goverment beliefs

This is a hell of a read. AI psychosis is profoundly disturbing.
milesklee.bsky.social
This is the biggest, toughest article I’ve done about so-called “AI psychosis.” It’s the story of a man who committed a horrific crime in his youth but served his time and against all odds found love and a new life—one that completely unraveled after he started talking to Google’s Gemini chatbot.
He Grew Obsessed With an AI Chatbot. Then He Vanished in the Ozarks
Jon Ganz committed a terrible crime in his youth, but he survived prison, fell in love, and started over. His new life unraveled in a way nobody could have predicted.

Wait. When did bluesky get a bookmark option?
drjoemcintyre.bsky.social
Lol. That's new to me. Wild.

Tbh, i doubt we academics in Oz are held in sufficient regard to ever interest a judge

Of course if one was travelling, Adelaide in January is far preferable. Sunshine, beaches, great wine, legal theorists...

I have a piece on "Ivory Washing" coming out shortly which looks at the misuse of academic expertise to provide unwarranted legitimacy to political views. This is one of my case studies

Just to take stock: the first claim was that there was an entire literature supporting the anti-birthright position. Then, *after* that claim, scholars emerged to post drafts on SSRN. And *now* the government points to a "growing body of modern scholarship" all drafted after the initial claim.

Researchers found more than 80 cases of generative AI use in Australian courts so far – mostly by people representing themselves. That comes with serious risks.
More people are using AI in court, not a lawyer. It could cost you money – and your case
