Welcome, new followers! I mostly post about scholarship on nineteenth century American social, cultural, and literary history, print culture, and my dog. My cat too. Expect lots of stuff about archives, and very little about politics, because I keep that offline. Glad you’re here! 🙌
It’s not often that I block a historian here, but I just read one of the pettiest acts of sanctimony directed at a new book I think I’ve ever seen, and I mashed block so fast, I might have cracked my phone’s screen.

I’m so excited to learn that Amazon has spent $35,000,000 to promote a documentary about melanoma, and as a skin cancer survivor, this really means a lot to me.

Look at beautiful Melia! A 3.5 yo certified v good girl. Humans let Melia down. Abandoned to fend for herself. As a result she’s now spent 865+ days in the shelter. Training funded for the human/rescue partner who adopts/pulls Melia. Located in Hempstead, NY.

The majority of organizing happening in Minnesota isn’t just peaceful, it’s INVISIBLE. Moms showing up who won’t be interviewed on TV, people whose ICE patrols don’t turn into viral video. The grocery runs, the donations, the people filming bc they happen to be there. Please remember this.

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.

Indentures are contracts, usually for terms of labor, that were written in duplicate on a single sheet that was cut in half, creating the indentations that give them their name. Each party kept one half. These are from 1797 & 1800 and were issued by the Boston Overseers of the Poor 🗃️
