Around 20% of my work year is on an event called the Spine Race. It's brought me into the most wonderful community of endurance runners. I lead their checkpoint department & place c.150 people from Derbyshire to Scotland each January, to look after 500+ athletes

Anyone know the race?

The Arctic Spine is looking very Spiney!
It's cold out there tonight on the Arctic Spine Races 2026, dropping down to -30'c.

Strava can get itself right down in the bin with that time stamp though

The hound after our walk this afternoon. I gave him a warm bath and still he’s staring at me with a betrayed look!

Enough for today now. Almost at the point where I can consider the winter Spine signed off. Feedback collated and sent out. Post-race report written. Just a few kit jobs to do and a management meeting to attend!

But for now, it’s time to relax

Enjoy the rest of the weekend peeps 🥰

While independent bookstores are giving out free whistles, hosting protest sign making events, and donating proceeds to mutual aid, Amazon is *checks notes* providing technology that assists ICE in their terrorizing of communities.

Independent bookstores deserve your support. Amazon does not.

Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

I’m not sure we’ve properly addressed how profoundly disturbing it is that America can largely shrug at the stashing of human beings in giant warehouses.

Restful times in Norfolk this weekend with a very dear friend. Beautiful walks and whiling away the hours by the log burner

Gentle half hour on the bike before work. Feeling so much better despite ongoing deadlines

Have a great Wednesday everyone 👊🏻

It’s terrifying that both of these chilling historical statements ring true today

America is in deep & sinister trouble while the world treats the conductor of this horror-orchestra with deference

Boycott the USA, cancel the USA World Cup, stand up to our UK pound-shop Trump, practice compassion 💔

Obsessively #dotwatching again. The Arc of Attrition ultra weekend is underway and the leaders in the 100 mile race have reached the wild Penwith peninsula already. Good luck to them in the stormy weather!

Sacking off my evening work and prioritising relaxation

Happy Friday my friends! 🧡 🤩

Absolutely hanging… Full of cold & haven’t had a chance to rest properly since well before the Spine began. Race week takes it out of me every time! 🤪

NHS shifts done for the week but 11 meetings, a written report & portfolio prep lie between me and a day off

Please send happy pics? 🙏🏻

This photo by Andrew Hendry encompasses how I feel about the Spine community. There is nothing quite like the group of extraordinary people who run it, work on it & follow it

Love is palpable here. The #SpineFamily is deeply life-affirming

Rounded off my spine week with a jaunt up to hut 2, with Race Director Phil Hayday-Brown and one of the Arctic crew, Ed

Best brew of the race was had in that hut, along with a bit of tablet as a reward for the climb up the hill!

I need to do more of this during race week 🥰

Sorry for the major delay! The lovely Allie Bailey reached the wall at the end of her epic 268 mile battle this evening. She talked about how everything on the trail both punishes and rewards in equal measure. Lovely interview 🤩

Congrats Allie! 🙌🏻

The department I lead on this race is 170+ people strong. I place teams at 10 locations along the 268 mile Pennine Way to care for athletes as they tackle their brutal challenges.

I am so proud of the work that they do

More info in ALT texts

Please show them all the love ❤️

Anna Troup with an astonishing finish & a clear 2026 Montane winter Spine Race win to add to her Summer trophy. She also currently holds the female supported Pennine Way fkt!

She currently has an ‘ultra lean’ & has had to hold her head up straight with her hand for the last few hours!

James Hargreaves takes a valiant 3rd place in the 2026 Spine Race! He’s done the Challenger North before, and when reaching the wall he really looked like he’d taken the whole 268 miles in his stride
