I've partnered with Books are Awesome, a local LGBTQ/woman-owned indie bookstore to provide signed, personalized copies of Redneck Revenant:

The first 200 orders through them will also come with a set of character art cards drawn by @jakeshandy.bsky.social!
The teal and white cover to Redneck Revenant by David R. Slayton. It shows grasping undead hands and a creepy wolf's mask. In the center are three black cats and the phrase "The Past Never Truly Dies."

You know that feeling when your alarm goes off, and all you want to do is pull the door back over your tomb and sleep for a couple hundred years?

My Filipino American History Month display at my library. It’s my honor each year to showcase & uplift Filipino stories. Just 5 years ago, I didn’t have enough books to even put up a display, but now my display overflows. I marvel at how far we’ve come. And yet there’s always room for more. #booksky

I know it's on page 12 of what's important right now, but I am sad to see the Great North cancelled. It was a delightful little show with some fun moments that brought me joy.

This tells me to watch it. I've gotten clips and been intrigued.

I get it. I have a lot of complicated feelings about belief and things we cannot see. *hugs*

Just as long as you're forgiven, you've got your ticket off this rock. So my experience, is that it's a way to abdicate your responsibilities, to your children, and most of all, to yourself.

My experience with belief in the rapture is that it gives people an out, the belief that this world doesn't matter, so why bother trying to improve it? Why bother about leaving it better for future generations? Why bother trying to be a better person?

The biggest impact of it all was my mother's attitude that nothing really mattered: the world was ending, so why go to college? Why even bother graduating high school? Have a cracked tooth? Just get it pulled. You won't need it for long. Her response to my dropping out was a shrug.

I remember another boy at the school, also named David, whose parents were late one day to pick him up. He had a full breakdown when he believed that they'd be taken and he'd been left behind. I had a few meltdowns myself. It was not an environment that lent itself to ordered emotions.

The school once put us in a gym had us watch a series of movies about Christians being beheaded, etc. after getting left behind. It was all very cheerful and certainly helped with my sister's night terrors.

which is why you see Adam having a lot of developmental delay when you read his series.

She liked to tell me every morning that today could be the day, and to behave, so I wouldn't get left behind (this was some years before those books thankfully).

She enrolled us at the church's fledgling school, which was happy to suck up the child support my dad was paying. That thankfully ended after two years, but it meant I ended public high school at a severe disadvantage. It also meant that my emotional development was WAY behind...

like my little sister's night terrors, were demonic attacks, she didn't think you could know the time and day, which made it a much more convenient weapon.

After my dad left us my mom got VERY involved in a local church that was very into the whole speaking in tongues, end of days, rapture stuff. While my mom believed in it all thoroughly, going so far as to anoint our house and believe that most ill things happening to us...

I've been pretty heads down this year, which is about the only way to survive the chaos of the world: throw myself into my writing and try not to let the tide sweep me away.
That said, it was hard to miss the annual rapture drama, so here's my rapture story. This may take a moment as I will ramble.

Long response appreciated and appreciate having some things to think about.
