This is Sue’s story. But it could be the story of any of the roughly half a dozen families I spoke to for this investigation.

And it’s the story of what failure over three decades means for real people, a mother and son.
The tragic consequences of PA's failed mental health system
One family's story reveals the human cost of hospital closures, funding cuts, and the resulting failures in Pennsylvania's mental health care system.

On the same day the Washington Post announces their layoffs, ProPublica of all places is ready to strike.

How has journalism gotten to the place where the people who power the best newsrooms in the country are treated so poorly by the people that run them?

On Tuesday, I had never heard of Dr. John O'Brien II, Gov. Shapiro's new pick for the Board of Pardons.

Today, I am aware of more than two dozen cases where Dr. O'Brien was paid hundreds of dollars to say essentially the same thing: The defendant cannot be rehabilitated.
Prolific prosecution witness tapped for Board of Pardons
