Given the state of things, I have to take joy from the little things. Therefore, I'm happy to see that my favorite 007 score (and my favorite Bond film) is being released in an expanded form.
.. it goes without saying that composer John Barry is a legend.

Hey, It's The Girl From UNCLE ("April Dancer") 🤓😍

This ending - to both the film and to Garfield's career (as it turned out). 😢

Hot take: In different ways both Nick and Peg are outcasts, so an element of "attraction" (empathy really) may be natural. Of course, it makes the ending that much more heartbreaking.

why? why are you going away with him?
Because there are ZERO other men in New York City. ZERO. NONE.

The score for #HeRanAllTheWay was composed by Franz Waxman (1906-1967). He also scored a few films that maybe familiar: Bride of Frankenstein, Rebecca, The Philadelphia Story, Suspicion, Humoresque, Sorry, Wrong Number, A Place in the Sun and Rear Window.

Film Noir in less than 90 minutes? Nothing but bad decisions are all you have time for.

Nick has *big* plans.
Of course, fate and his own poor choices mean that those plans are pretty shot.

A legend. And we'll be seeing more of his work on Saturday evening in #TheSweetSmellOfSuccess.

"Hi everyone, this is Nick and
... he has a gun and won't be leaving anytime soon. But that is ok, I find him much more interesting than that Beethoven nerd upstairs. Swell guy this Nick."

Ms. Winters experience with water is a bit better in #HeRanAllTheWay than in her other films.

Mom (Gladys George) sounds a tad disappointed with her son.

To follow-up my post during #Laura about the intersection between classic film and the old Batman TV show, tonight provides two prime examples: Shelley Winters as “Ma Parker” and Tallulah Bankhead as “Black Widow”.

IIRC, North wound up using some of the abandoned score for "Shoes of the Fisherman" which was released later in 1968. And, in the mid 2000s, the "alternative" score was issued on CD. Having listened to it (once) .... Kubrick made the right choice.
dwayneadd.bsky.social
There are conflicting stories about whether or not Alex North knew of Kubrick's decision. He did write a score for the film, but:
1. Knew that ultimately his work and the classical pieces conflicted. Or,
2. Saw the film at the premiere and was totally shocked. 😲

To satisfy worried MGM executives, Kubrick set some of the early 2OO1 footage to classical music (that he wound up not using). Happy with the footage, the execs flew back to the US thinking that he would - naturally - replace the temp tracks with a new film score. Little did they know .....

The story of how the soundtrack to 2OO1 came to be is fascinating. Johann Stauss, Richard Stauss, Aram Khachaturian and György Ligeti are forever linked. IIRC, it was Kubrick's wife that first heard Ligeti and suggested it to him.

Thanks for alerting everyone. And since Monday is a holiday for many in the US, we'll get to watch them all (and OD on popcorn!).
Maybe, someday, TCM will broadcast an actual Bond film again. Silly dream, I know.

Just realized that this was only two days before the launch of Apollo 7 from pad 34 (October 11, 1968). The pace of Apollo missions in 1968-1969 still leaves me in awe.

I wonder if they realize just how stupid and insane they sound?

... perhaps by the under 25-year-old writers of many web articles? 🙄

It sounds incredible, but that show was my introduction to many film stars.

To reinforce Ben's point about Preminger: Keir Dullea has often been quoted as saying that working with Stanley Kubrick was easy compared to "that guy I had on my last picture." He was filming "Bunny Lake Is Missing" when he was cast.
