Yes, it’s shameful that America’s billionaires aren’t stepping up. But as a taxpayer in the richest country that has ever existed, I’m happy to have my tax dollars help feed the starving. And I find it shameful we don’t do more.

I think one problem is that the Danish company working on at least one of these projects doesn’t know it’s supposed to slide some cash under the Resolute Desk.

really cannot be emphasized enough that bari weiss has literally never done journalism. i don’t mean that in the pejorative sense. i mean that in the “has never performed the job she was hired to do” sense
One explanation for Bari killing the story is that she did so as a public act of fealty to the administration. But another is that, as an inexperienced journalist, she doesn’t understand that a refusal to go on the record is a kind of comment in and of itself

Imagine how insecure you’d have to be to try naming everything after yourself. Or maybe it’s the realism of knowing nothing will be named after you once you’re gone.
Most notably JFK did not go around naming airports and art centers after himself. Other people did that, mostly after he was dead. This is Trump just vandalizing institutions like a child with a crayon in a room full of white walls and there are no adults willing to stop him

FOUR new deaths in ICE detention. That puts the total this year at 30 people dead; the highest in ICE's history and worse than even during the COVID years.

In the 90 minutes since I posted this, I've gotten two more death notifications.
ICE has a responsibility to take care of these people, something they are clearly disregarding. This is beyond horrifying. We must ensure dignity and humanity for detained people in this country.
