Monday- Sinewy

#Photography
A photo of graffiti and a bridge. The graffiti is of a happy skeleton with a caption saying "sinew". Above this is some trees and bushes on a slope. The bridge curves up and the colors of the overpass are distorted and manipulated into saturation.

First social media post I saw today- somebody bitterly complaining about a software UI

Something that has no effect on me and I have no influence on, just a random bit of negativity that does nothing to improve or inform anybody's life

Think I'll sign off for the day

after millions of views and shares of my Portland Frog art. (thank you all🙏🏾) I got requests to highlight priests, and chickens, and Chicagoans, and T-Rexes, and more… all of us who refuse to bend the knee. so this is for US.

One of the best events of the year- the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at the MN Zoo
A trail in the woods at night with dozens of carved pumpkins along the trail and in the trees lit up Dozens of colorful carved pumpkins. A very large one has some smaller carved pumpkins in it mouth. A large pumpkin carved as an angler fish. A large pumpkin carved as two young raccoons eating s'mores around a camp fire.

I’m settling into 3 distinct looks:

Old rocker who doesn’t GAF

Goth industrial hippie

Outfit that would have been worn by a member of 4 Non- Blondes AND a member of Jane’s Addiction

One of the best things on the internet

Take a break from the snark, complaining, and gallery of horrors and outrage for a bit of cute slapstick

This captures the vibe of how I feel trying to get through most days...

Honestly, for me it now takes a massive act of willpower to check anything on social media- it's gotten so incredibly corrosive to my mental wellbeing it sort of becomes a choice between social media and having any spark to create (or even exist on a lot of days)

Ah, I thought so- I absolutely adore that place

Is that from House On the Rock?

Oh, wow- heartbreaking

A massive fixture of First Ave and the local scene

Lots of love to his coworkers and friends

I keep thinking that since no country in their right mind will buy weapons systems from the US again because of *waves hands at everything* these spending increases essentially become welfare for the military industrial complex

Plus war crimes, of course

Thanks for the lawsuit, DOJ

On behalf of my city and state, I wish you a heartfelt “fuck you, make me”

We Decided To Survive More
oil on canvas panel
20 x 24

Look, we are not unspectacular things.
We’ve come this far, survived this much. What
would happen if we decided to survive more? To love harder?

#art #abstract
Story-ALTtext⬇️
An abstracted painting with a slightly surrealistic bent suggesting landscape and geometric figures.

The portion of the poem (DEAD STARS) I’ve selected continues: “ What if we stood up with our synapses and flesh and said, No.
     No, to the rising tides.
Stood for the many mute mouths of the sea, of the land?
What would happen if we used our bodies to bargain
for the safety of others, for earth,
if we declared a clean night, if we stopped being terrified...”

I've been thinking about muscles.

How they need to be stressed and then rested to grow, to strengthen and to become resiliant. The balance of stress and rest matters - both equally important. And for me, the struggle is always to embrace the rest. I am happiest in motion.

And it is the same with our tender hearts, our feisty spirits, our burning creativity. We must push and stress and exercise them, and then rest. So while my muscles were pushed to the limit this month with 15 days of consecutive hiking, bouldering, cliff-climbing and sand walking, my insides were resting. I was unaware of how needed it was.

So I was delighted and surprised upon our return to find clarity, energy, enthusiasm and boldness simmering up within me. A desire to shake things up, explore, dive deeply, climb higher than I thought I should. Where will this take me? I cannot wait to find out.

In the meantime, the studio is getting a coat of bold, dark paint. OOOOOH!

I saw this on my regular walking path yesterday and it honestly made me cry out of hope for humanity

Art will always be there, people will always express themselves, and it’s so heartwarming to see kids put themselves and their expressions out there
A hand drawn flyer hanging on a pole inviting people to a “consert” some kids are putting on for the neighborhood.

There's a certain new goth FB group that's getting a lot of attention here right now

Seriously, that's what they want- ignore that trash
