“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

Not convenient for the clicks. I imagine that Palace / Bournemouth do not pull a lot of traffic.

There was absolutely *no* reason for the news to look the way it did last week, especially on the BBC of all places, beyond the fact that a large swathe of the media (particularly the upper echelons) have been captured by the Twitter machine and have substituted the 'map' for the territory.
Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years in prison for his attempted military coup in Brazil, but you didn't hear much about it in the news because the people who did the exact same thing in the States dominated the media crying hysterically over a podcaster. None of this was inevitable.

As The Clash once sung ‘If Adolf Hitler flew in today, they’d send the limos in anyway’

Yes! I think very deeply.

Do you think that worthy politics, of any stripe, could get any traction at all in today’s (social) media landscape? With many living online, coupled with the bbc following the press lead how can the populist message be countered?

Not one government has mirrored its X accounts on Bluesky, let alone moving over and leaving Musk's hate sewer. How long do we have to wait? Which country is going to make the first move? The EU could be a catalyst but only when a national government moves will all the attendant institutions follow.

If you are still on X you are supporting this.

When’s the settlement for drummers coming? Clyde Stubblefield stands to become one of the richest men in the world. He’s been waiting since 1984 or thereabouts.

The media across the spectrum did a bad job of context last weekend, by reporting aspirations of a massive wave of protests as a fact.

The earlier prediction that the injunction to empty the hotel would see protests grow proved wrong.

We don't know if the new verdict will. Don't assume, do report

Dark money dehumanising people (both subject and object) and stimulating the meanest instincts. When done repeatedly it sticks I think.

Yes indeed. (I’ve drummed in many blues bands). Related: Hubert Sumlin might be my favourite blues guitarist. Criminally overlooked. (See Goin’ Down Slow, and Commit a Crime). Chills.

Tremendously weird, one chord (I think) arrangement for Back Door Man. This oddness with Wolf, modern bands struggle to copy, even when aiming for it.

That’s correct

Interesting idea, but he’s obviously such a systems manager that it trumps all.

Seems to be all by design. Get the libs (and everyone else) to avoid news. Zero shared facts, just camps who don’t recognise and fear each other’s reality.

I stopped engaging a few years ago and I feel massively guilty.

What even is ‘news’ now? Not what it was 10 years ago.

Interesting content but almost unreadable. I guess there’s no money for sub editors any more.

Big crop this year, and look beautiful ( I love the Rowan) but too early to be of use to the birds.
August 20, 2025 at 8:11 AM
Ours too. I wonder if this is going to be a problem for the birds in autumn.

Why is he in a minority? Because the narrative is driven by dark money and Labour is failing to either challenge it effectively or shift it off the central agenda. You can’t ‘fix’ it through policy because those setting this narrative can never be satisfied.
