As someone who held a "friends don't let friends lose democracy" sign in front of the US embassy branch in Tel Aviv when Biden was in office, I agree. And while pro-democracy forces in the US are out of power, the best tool available is to cooperate with international networks like Demo-Crisis.

Biden's cease-fires got 135 living hostages released. Trump's got 20 (which is less than it would have been had he enforced the continuation of the January cease fire).

That's the opposite direction of what Charles suggested here. It isn't that Trump deliberately blocked Biden's plan for Gaza (unlike what he did with immigration), it's that Netanyahu and Hamas waited for Trump to let them do whatever they want.

payoff, it's that Netanyahu expected Trump to let him continue the war indefinitely. Even now, the war only ended because he pissed off Trump with the strike in Qatar, which made Trump finally strong-arm Netanyahu into a deal.

Sometimes things are about other countries' politics, not US politics.

This is a bit too US-centric. The US wasn't a third party in the Iran hostage crisis and Vietnam as it is in the Israel-Hamas conflict. As much as I hate Trump, he's not the one responsible for the resumption of the war. Netanyahu is, for his own internal reasons. It's not a 9-month delay in the /

Trump, speaking at the Knesset, just called on President Herzog to pardon Netanyahu, saying nobody cares about cigars and champagne. He should've said, "that kind of corruption is small potatoes compared to mine."

(To be clear: Netanyahu's corruption goes way beyond cigars and champagne)

העם הביא הסכם והעם יתקן

אחרי חודשים ארוכים שהציבור הישראלי דורש שהממשלה תחתום על הסכם להחזרת החטופים וסיום המלחמה - הלילה זה קרה.

פרס נובל לשלום הוענק השנה למריה מצ׳אדו, פעילת דמוקרטיה מוונצואלה. הועדה הזכירה שהדמוקרטיה בנסיגה בכל העולם וחשוב להילחם בזה בדרכי שלום. לדעתי, מסר חשוב בשבילנו - חובה להמשיך להלחם על הדמוקרטיה הישראלית!

I'm not familiar with Maria Corina Machado, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, but I'm happy with the larger message the Nobel Committee sent. Democratic backsliding makes the world less safe. Anyone living in a country that is losing, has lost, or never had democracy, must fight peacefully for it.
