We held a rally to mark one-year of the financial crisis at the University of Dundee.

We resolve to continue opposing compulsory lay-offs and a radical reshaping of the institution.

If we fight together we win!

Glad to be able to pop by the @ducuuo.bsky.social picket line as they were just getting set up this morning.
Staff are on strike in the cold & damp to say NO to compulsory redundancies. Management must engage with staff properly: co-design a recovery plan, do not impose cuts!

Please read this article as it outlines issues raised by students following the cutting of academic and support staff, and a reduction in modules and degree specialisms.

Thanks to all of them for speaking out and to the BBC for listening to them.

We need to stop shipping in vastly overpaid, underperforming ‘executives’ who don’t care about OUR university or OUR city. These people (in this picture) are the people who CAN save OUR university.

Very strong turnout this morning on the first of our five days strike.

On Friday, in a meeting with the interim Principal, he confirmed his ideology is to cut as many jobs as possible.

Support our action to save jobs and save the University!

Over the past year, cuts equivalent to circa 15,000 staff members have been made in UK universities. That trend is continuing & accelerating. Hundreds of redundancies are announced every week. A *Labour* government refuses to do anything to stop thousands of job losses.

If you missed it, here’s the interim Principal talking about substantial future job cuts at University of Dundee.

He refers to the number of job losses recommended in the recovery plan. This is 390FTE with 340FTE via redundancies.

We believe redundancies are not necessary. #SaveHE #SaveDundeeUni

The most exhausting part of the destruction of #UKHE is the shameless denial of reality by our overlords. We're made to spend so much time on constantly reestablishing facts, and can never take their word.

The weaseliness of 'we said we didn't expect, we never said we wouldn't' 🤢

He stated that he had never ruled out redundancies.

Redundancies were ruled out on three occasions by the most senior staff member at the University of Dundee.

Once to STV, once to staff and once in an interview with the Courier.

Now they are denying they said it when in front of our elected representatives.

We can also quote him word for word from a meeting with all staff on 1st July.

“I do want to emphasises the fact that it’s a pure voluntary severance scheme.

It will not be followed by a redundancy scheme.

There is no secret Plan B.”

In case you're wondering where we're at with #UKHE: senior managers are now trying to use the *anti-terrorism* mechanisms to reprimand their staff for talking with local politicians.

But everything's fine. No need for government to intervene and put an end to the abuses of power.
