In the last few days I was again exposed to soft-denialist lines about Hamas's sexual violence on October 7th, from "progressive" journalists. Serious journalists should address this issue with the care and sensitivity it deserves, and should do much better than this.

We should begin teaching statistical literacy in kindergarten. If a strong majority of our population had a basic sense of statistics, our country as a whole would better understand that the recent increased frequency of severe weather events is due to some underlying cause (such as climate change).
A recent national study concluded that floods previously considered to be hundred-year events have become, on average, 62-year events, as a result of human-caused climate change.
In an Age of Climate Change, How Do We Cope with Floods?
The deaths in the Texas Hill Country are a tragic testament to the force of a raging river. Flood-stricken Vermont has a radical plan to counter the threat it faces.

#colbert My wife and I went to a taping of the Colbert show soon after I started using a white cane to navigate. We didn’t notify the show in advance but were treated extremely well from the moment we arrived. The staff were wonderful, and clearly well practiced at hosting folks with disabilities.
