Another question I came here with was: how effective are the whistles and honking? Does it stop abductions? And the answer is, surprisingly to my cynical self, yes, and often. I have talked to so many people who have successfully interrupted kidnappings.

Je crois que j'ai déjà raconté ici qu'on a du changer d'itinéraire et entrer dans une boutique faire du "shopping" avec une élève parce que les 1312 étaient devant le bahut, attendant qu'on rentre de la sortie ciné pour l'embarquer.

The longer this war drags on the more likely Syrians will never heal. It's absurd anyone believes it can end well. Even if the state ends up governing all Syrian territory, depicting "unity", what unity? the scars, hatred and deep mistrust this conflict will generate leaves no room for cohesion

Even if the claim of an offensive by state aligned forces were true, nothing justifies such brutality. If the victims were indeed Arab civilians collectively punished based on their identity for actions they had nothing to do with, this marks a deeply grim development.

Reports indicate the killings took place in a village outside Kobani. In last night's video a man speaking in Kurmanji claims responsibility for the massacre, saying it was carried out in retaliation for an attack on Kobani, that Kurdish fighters won't let an attack on the town go unanswered.
