Migratory birds connect continents & ecosystems — but their age-old routes are under threat from habitat loss, pollution, & climate change, causing alarming declines.

How much do you really know about them? Take the quiz and find out. https://ow.ly/3LEJ50Xa186 #WorldMigratoryBirdDay

Es el sorprendente descubrimiento que ha realizado un equipo de la @ebdonana.bsky.social y la @au.dk.

There are more cases of Hansen’s disease reported in Brazil than any other nation besides India.

A study carried out by Brazilian researchers and published in May revealed a strong association in Brazil between direct contact with armadillos and a high risk of contracting Hansen’s disease.
Research aims to link Hansen’s disease & illegal armadillo hunting in Brazil
Hansen’s disease (also known as leprosy) has afflicted humans for thousands of years — it has been cited throughout history, even in passages of the Bible. Yet science has still not determined…

Wildlife traffickers continue to engage in illegal trade of #Spix's #Macaws & other wildlife from various countries, right under the noses of #CITES authorities. This raises serious concerns about whether #CITES is an ineffective organization, corrupt, or a combination of both.

During my presentation at the 1988 IUCN-IBAMA “2nd World Conference on the Conservation of Neotropical Parrots in Curitiba, 🇧🇷 ”, several known wildlife traffickers were present. In response, #IBAMA, #WCS, and #IUCN advised scientists to remove any maps of our study sites from our presentations

Illegal transactions involving Spix's Macaws have been taking place for decades, facilitated by wealthy individuals, including billionaire collectors in India, as well as groups like drug lords and mafia members. Despite being illegal, these activities continue unchecked.

The Brazilian endemic Spix’s Macaw has been listed on #CITES Appendix I as an endangered species, receiving complete protection from trade under this #UN convention for decades. This agreement includes 151 signatory countries.
