Second Q: They way Tom described her as appearing miserable, down, fire gone out post-Bothwell incident. Did she just give up? Why!? Did she really feel no alternative but to marry him because (if) he physically raped her? She was so canny and strong up until that point. @theresthistory.bsky.social
Absolutely LOVED the Mary Queen of Scots series. Q: If it was more or less understood that Bothwell abducted and raped her then forced marriage, why did the Confederate Lords turn against her instead of seek to liberate and restore her? They seemed to completely dump her @theresthistory.bsky.social

A fun church crawl to Winchester Cathedral today, my highlight was seeing the Winchester Bible under a medieval wall painting of a scribe at work! 😍📜

Beautiful 1860s Victorian butterfly, which was used to store small packets of sewing needles on the underside of the wings. This was a collaboration between a London-based drapers company and a sewing needle manufacturer. On exhibit at Tatter Blue, a Brooklyn textile museum.

“This is about the President of the United States and his complicit lackey, Stephen Miller, searching for ways to lay the groundwork to circumvent our democracy, militarize our cities, and end elections.” – Gov. J.B. Pritzker

Walz says Harris "would have been a fantastic president... we wouldn't wake up every day to a bunch of shit on TV. We would wake up to an adult w/ compassion & dignity doing the work, not a manchild crying about whatever is wrong with him. May his fat ankles find something today. Petty as hell."
I think I'm starting to like ChatgPT...

Fox News Reporter Jacqui Heinrich: The way that it felt in the room was not good. It did not seem like things went well. And it seemed like Putin came in and steam rolled, got right into what he wanted to say and got his photo next to the president and then left

Blumenthal: "My stomach turned when I heard the president of the United States characterize Vladimir Putin as his fabulously good friend. Vladimir Putin is a war criminal."

Newsom: "He's a failed president. Who else sends ICE at the same time we're having a conversation like this? Someone who's weak. Someone who's broken. Someone whose weakness is masquerading as strength."
Except for, of course, 1066 And All That.
Listening to TRIH out of order depending on my interests any given day, and the one absolute constant across nearly every episode is a reference to "The Ladybird Books," of which I'd never (as an American) before heard, and now understand they're the only books, ever. @theresthistory.bsky.social

New in PN: The worst chief justice of all time

"American history has no shortage of legendarily bad chief justices and disgraceful decisions. But John Roberts has overseen the wholesale corruption and capture of the Supreme Court, and history should look back on his tenure with revulsion."
