Democratic socialism. Urbanism. Futbol. 🇨🇦 #Never51 #ElbowsUp
Two things:

When Americans tell me to mind my own business, I want to riot. The dumb sh*t they do in the US affects us all.

Secondly, any Canadians who buy gas from US-owned Esso are not Elbows Up. It's not only American, it's evil. Stop supporting them.

#cdnpoli #BoycottUSA #BoycottEsso
Now, remind me again that non-Americans should mind their own business.

This isn't a surprising response.

The question is how are we addressing this issue?

The recent federal government budget did little to change this reality. One could argue the corporate subsidies and tax breaks for the wealthy will make the situation worse.

This also sums up the perspective of Canadians toward the US...

It seems so obvious to us in Canada that you've been living in a fascist state since January. And yet, many of you (including Democrats) get upset when we talk about it.

It's the twilight zone.

#Trump #fascism #cdnpoli
I’ve noticed that when you’re living in authoritarianism, a large portion of the population thinks they’re still living in democracy.

It’s like living in the motherfucking twilight zone.

And given Canada's current economic direction to double down on oil extraction, Canada is likely to learn a very tough lesson.

#cdnpoli #Oil #Renewables #energy #abpoli #yyc #yeg #bcpoli
more and more countries are going to see that getting off foreign oil imports is a great reason to accelerate electrification and renewables buildout, regardless of what it means for the climate
The energy transition happens often in unlikely places at unprecedented rates.

Take Nepal: Over the past year, electric vehicles accounted for 76 percent of all passenger vehicles and half of the light commercial vehicles sold in Nepal.

Five years ago, that number was essentially zero.
November 24, 2025 at 11:29 PM
This.

Furthermore, Canada is supposedly building trade relationships with EU countries. They will not appreciate Canada doubling down on oil. The potential losses in trade with the EU are immense.

#cdnpoli #bcpoli #topoli #EU #Oil #ClimateCrisis
Pipelines: $145m year per $1b invested.

Solar & Wind: $180m per year per $1b invested.

Hydro dams: $167m per year per $1 invested.

Geothermal: $160m per year per $1b invested.

If I am private equity why would I invest more money into the loosing industry? Both AB and BC have access to all three.

2. Kenney lied about overwhelming support from British Columbians.

A few weeks ago, when I posted a thread of the federal gov't funding cuts outlined in the budget, I received comments from Canadians concerned about the foreign aid cuts.

Since then, news media have written about it:

Everyone going in on Cherundolo because, well, it's a stupid statement.

What he should have said is that the Whitecaps were better in the first half and penales, while LAFC were the better side in the 2nd half and extra time. And LAFC should have scored in extra time 11 v 9.

#VWFC #LAFC
Steve Cherundolo says that given some time to reflect, LAFC players & staff will realize "we lost this one, and Vancouver didn't win."

Same issue in BC.

Metro Van & Fraser Valley has a population of 3.5M people and Vancouver FC struggles to draw 1,000 fans to a 6,500 seat stadium.

Canadians are only Elbows Up in supporting Canadian products if those products come in a jar or can, apparently.

Wade Miller, Valour’s president and CEO, said low attendance was a major factor in the club’s closure: "I love all the Valour fans. Whether it's our season ticket members, or the Red River Rising supporters' group, we had passionate fans, we just never had enough of them," #CanPL

Canada is not one of the 15 solar power producing countries, in case anyone was wondering...

We're being left behind.

Solar capacity is expected to triple based on new projects in the pipeline.

Total global solar capacity, including all projects in construction and planned, is expected to reach almost 3 terawatts, with 80% concentrated in just 15 countries.

Another Canadian Premier League team has folded.

You know what "Elbows Up" means? It's supporting Canadian businesses.

Winnipeg has failed to do that.

For those who haven't been keeping up on Carney's activities as of late, this is a good thread of articles.

In fairness to Carney, the foreign aid cuts were outlined in the budget (No, that doesn't make it good, but he wasn't hiding that one, at least).

#cdnpoli #bcpoli #vanpoli
If you're keeping score this week, Carney is:

* Negotiating backroom deals on pipelines with Alberta and without BC or Indigenous folks.
* Undermining anti-greenwashing laws.
* Making deals with the UAE despite their role in Sudan.
* Cutting funding for infectious disease work in Africa.

1. Canada's standard of living is higher than the US by many measures.

2. Canada's economy has not stagnated. GDP/person is up from $37k in 1980 to $60k.

3. Canada's housing crisis is mainly due to:
-Brian Mulroney slashing CMHC funds
-Corporations buying homes

Yes, when the US gets rid of their fascist regime (whatever year in the future that might be), the next democratic US government needs to abolish ICE.

And also pass legislation to prevent such Gestapo-esque US government departments from ever existing again.

#Trump #ICE #fascism #cdnpoli
We don’t need to reform ICE.
We don’t need alternatives to ICE.
We don’t need to engage in dishonest debates wondering what the U.S. would do without ICE.

ICE isn’t even 23 years old. Most adults know a world without ICE. And the billions used to fund ICE can be used to meet people’s basic needs.
