JB Fressoz often us Drax as an illustration of how wood burning has done a comeback in the UK.

So the "green transition" is not much of a transition and neither is it green.

Great @drilledmedia.bsky.social episode with historian Fressoz drilling into the energy transition narrative. He also talks about the IPCC and CCS used by actors as the US government to protect a growth agenda and fossil companies profits. Check it out!

A Green ‘Transition’? If Only It Were That Simple
In ‘More and More and More,’ Jean-Baptiste Fressoz shows that the human history of energy is one of accumulation, not substitution.

A lot of this seems resonable regarding Africa I guess. But.

Semi-perifery? China is the biggest producer of cars, coal (4th in gas, 5th in oil) and CO2-emissions (also consumption based). Biggest oil and coal importer. With the second largest military spending of all countries.

China is central.
Is China doing "colonialism" in Africa?

Here I argue that equating China’s activities in Africa to Western colonialism/imperialism is not only empirically incorrect, it trivialises the extraordinary violence of the latter. It is a form of denialism.

The notion of any single “energy transition” masks the more complicated process of accumulation that undergirds capitalism.

Some people claim degrowth is a political dead end. But think about the effort of governments to always keep us spending. Don't save, don't relax.

But chinese government have a hard time with people who cant or dont want to buy more new stuff.

@jasonhickel.bsky.social is this degrowth in action?

I reviewed MORE AND MORE AND MORE which argues that there’s no historical precedent for an “energy transition”; instead, we see symbiotic linkages between wood, coal, oil, and now renewables. I’m convinced. But the book’s analysis of capitalism falls short @thebaffler.com Link ⬇️
