Aquarium SATURDAY! 🦑🌙

NEAq had its inaugural adults-only Aquarium After Dark event tonight. It was some of the most fun I’ve had there! Tons of great conversations and active animals.

Aquarium Friday! 🦑 Lots of visitors for Tako the giant Pacific octopus today.

DYK: Tako has three hearts and nine brains, and changing colors is exceptionally energetically expensive!

It’s Aquarium Friday and our sweet girl Pancake (unofficial name) is back on exhibit in the touch tank! 🦑

Unfortunately, in these photos, she’s 100% hidden and completely invisible…

Huge news from the lovely team at @felt.com — they’re going mobile!

Felt has been my very best friend when planning trips for years. I would definitely recommend everyone checking it out. #gischat

For those curious about our shutdown kitten, who we found in the street days before getting furloughed — he’s back in Boston and doing great!

Someday he’ll learn that I’m not normally home 24/7, but not yet. He might actually be furlough’s biggest fan.

“Are you the gar girl from downstairs?”

YES! Happy #GarWeek and Aquarium Friday! The ancestral fishes exhibit at NEAQ has all sorts of freshwater friends, including gar, lungfish, sturgeon, and more ❤️🐟🦑

Big thanks to @garlab.bsky.social as always for a great week!

It’s #GarWeek! To kick things off, here are a couple recent photos of me with Yorick, the skull that started it all.

One of my favorite facts to share on the floor is that every alligator gar has a different number of teeth! “How many does that skull have?” I don’t know — start counting 😉

Hurricane #Melissa hit Jamaica's southwest coast yesterday with 185 mph winds. The Category 5 storm is the most powerful to hit #Jamaica since record-keeping began, undergoing rapid intensification fueled by warmer waters before landfall.

Thanks to some vigilant friends out there, I have a nearly-complete 87-hour radar loop of #Melissa 's approach to #Jamaica. The loop abruptly ends when the radar is lost (either loss of communication with it or loss of the actual structure).
