it's the world's third largest emitter. Also about 40% of the world's emissions are created by countries who contribute less than 2% each, so if they all took the attitude that they were powerless in the face of the US and China, we'd all burn. I think it is odd not to mention climate in your piece

If India wants to be a developed country by 2047, it should stop investing in coal and throw the kitchen sink at renewables. Otherwise the effects of global warming will be so catastrophic that there won't be much of a country to develop

India wants to be a developed country by 2047, the 100th anniversary of its independence from Britain. But what does that actually mean? I have a go at crunching the numbers.

Narendra Modi’s paltry target for India’s growth
The prime minister wants a $10trn economy by 2047. He should be bolder

It is a genuine privilege to work on the UK's energy transition but having to stare in the face every day what the earth is doing compared to what global politicians are doing... Some days that is very hard

Our current political moment makes me feel like I'm going mad

I was so ready to block you and then I got to the end of your post!

This is actually one of the best news pieces I've read in mainstream media about our circumstances. It carefully lays out the scale of the catastrophe we're potentially facing, and the utter unseriousness of those elected to do something about it

jeez men must have had a rough time in 2023-24

One of my friends has just started a toilet paper company! But with a twist: ALL profits go towards supporting good causes from supporting migrants to climate justice. You'll be buying toilet paper anyway, so why not donate to something worthwhile at the same time? www.indiegogo.com/projects/cle...

yes, so much to say about it. Most of which is too raw and vulnerable for a public platform! But yes, I feel you.

long covid is a nightmare. There is no help and so many people have it or have been through it. Very glad you also recovered.
elliemaeohagan.bsky.social
It did teach me something about resilience though, so there's that.
elliemaeohagan.bsky.social
I had long covid for 6-8 months and did couch to 5k to regain my fitness and it was SO hard. I got several injuries because I had been so sedentary for so long, which meant I had to keep restarting. I was stuck in the phase of running being an absolute slog with no runners' high for months.
elliemaeohagan.bsky.social
I'm really glad it has worked for you. Being overweight is hard and losing weight is really hard, especially when so many of us do sedentary jobs. GLP1s are healthier than obesity or things like gastric band surgery
elliemaeohagan.bsky.social
Yes most people I know who are on it have transformed their lifestyles in a way that feels permanent. People I know struggled to exercise and now have become gym fiends

One of my friends lost 5 stone on mounjaro and it changed her life and has been a gateway to an overall healthier lifestyle. I am concerned by how aggressively it's marketed at people and how easy it is to obtain though. I'm bombarded with ads for it constantly

ME/CFS is a devastating condition that has long been denied, dismissed, psychologised and underdiagnosed. Research is at last starting to catch up with it, with glimmers of hope for those who have been left untreated for so long.
There's a huge BUT coming ...🧵

Research could offer hope for ME patients – but some experts urge caution and say more studies needed

Amid the constant anti-renewables sentiment so common across our media, this letter today is a blessed relief.

Remember that phase on twitter where someone would do a thread and other people would be like "good thread" and the author would reply with a link to send them money. That was weird

I keep saying it: renewables are the future, and the US has made the decision to hasten its global decline by handing the future to someone else (中国)
janrosenow.bsky.social
Despite the noise, renewables keep rising now generating more electricity than coal.

@iea.org halved its US outlook, but raised India’s by 10%, putting it on track as the No. 2 growth market after China. MENA up 23%, driven by Saudi wind and solar.

"Spain’s rapid renewables build-out means its power prices were set by fossil generation just 19% of the time, down from 75% in 2019. As a result, wholesale electricity was almost a third cheaper than the EU average"

Imagine having cheaper power

Spain’s Renewable-Energy Boom Loosens Gas’s Grip on Power Prices
Soaring renewables output in Spain is weakening gas’s grip on electricity prices, setting the country apart from much of Europe where fossil fuels still dictate the cost of power.
