It's very clear people don't realize how terrifying measles is, or this would be front page news. Measles is absolutely brutal. Earlier this year a child died in years after recovering from the virus. Others experience vision and hearing loss, or have seizures.

Incredible piece on Oliver Sacks. If you were ever awed at his supposedly true stories (I remember being stunned by the account of the autistic twins who rattled off large prime numbers), read this. He told wonderful stories, but they were in large part fiction.

And that's not even getting into the legacy transphobia that Northwestern HASN'T caved on over the years. Here's what I'll never understand: that university still had Bailey's back after the Fucksaw Incident, but won't defend either its trans people or its instructor's academic freedom.
Our regular contributor @funcrunch.me.dm.ap.brid.gy is also an alumnus of Northwestern. They wrote about their anger and disappointment after Northwestern caved on trans rights to secure federal funding from the Trump admin.

People distrust the media and government for rational reasons. The problem is that Owens leaps from the sensible, true fact that those in power have an interest in concealing inconvenient truths to outlandish ideas about what “the truth” actually is.

This is a horrific betrayal of her constituents, particularly trans youth and their families.

A review article concluding the weed killer Roundup--aka glyphosate--“does not pose a health risk to humans” has been retracted 8 years after documents released in a court case revealed employees of Monsanto, the company that developed it, wrote the article but were not named as coauthors.
