Perhaps colonization is a useful parallel for what AI is trying to do in the knowledge/academic arenas. Barge in, exploit the terrain for useful resources, believe that you know everything there is to know (or worth knowing), then rinse and repeat.
They see reading as largely bothersome, and want to "get what they need" out of a text--which is of course completely objective and always correct 🙄--as quickly as possible. They didn't know how learning actually works, and they operate from such an impoverished idea of what it means to think.

Let me be clear. In the context of war, killing helpless former combatants who’re trying not to drown by clinging to pieces of their wrecked ship is a WAR CRIME. Outside the context of war, it is MURDER. There are a lot of very complex hard-to-judge military ethics cases, but this ain’t one of them.
