Update: The seminar presentation went well. Good questions from an engaged group. Technology worked for the short pre- and post-presentation Qualtrics quiz on audience perceptions of how psychology and theology might interface. I’ll be interested to analyse the results.

I’m looking forward to presenting at the Theology Seminar, University of Otago tomorrow. I’ll be talking about my action research on the social impact of shared spiritual practices, using the frame of science-engaged practical theology. Otago awarded me my PhD so it’s a sort of homecoming.

I’m pausing before interview number 7 of 12 in this particular project, evaluating impact for a training organisation working in Australia and New Zealand. Alongside the interviews is quantitative data analysis and a survey of 120 participants.

An anticipatory moment in my AngelWings Ltd day job. Pausing before an online interview. Waiting to listen. Serving an organisation wanting to grow.

Beside me is an interview schedule and 2 visual prompts for creative data gathering. Out of site on the desk is a research journal, pen, highlighter

Happening now: Hundreds of rabbis and Jewish community members gather in Brooklyn for a mass public memorial service on Yom Kippur, demanding a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and for the U.S. to stop arming Israel.

And last but by no means least, @docbrush.bsky.social presents her model of faith development, one of continuing discipleship, along with outlines and analysis of existing models in The Way Through The Trees: An Introduction to Faith Development.

The front cover of The Way Through The Trees by Sarah Brush.
There is an endorsement quote alongside, which reads: Sarah Brush proves herself to be an adept, playful, creative and generative guide to the geography of faith development theories and styles. The genius of this book is the independence of her judgment, the clarity of her analysis and the playfulness with which she invites her reader into exploring how this landscape might excite, nurture and grow faith … practical theology at its very best.
This is a quote from James Woodward, Principal of Sarum College.

Lovely afternoon for a walk in Karitane. Then home to mow the lawn, spray the apples to prevent black spot, water some lettuce seedlings and get some spring weeding done

interesting bit in a Lancet article re: Australia's teen social media ban: surprisingly the amount of socialising in person hasn't dropped significantly in the past 25 years, and certainly not by the average amount of social media use.

#nzpol Big turnout for the Women’s Day of Action for pay equity. Billions of dollars have been stolen from low-paid female dominated workforces. This government can find huge tax cuts for tobacco companies, landlords, and big businesses - but not fair pay. That must change.

Delighted this week to open a new research diary on a new research project. An impact evaluation of coaching for church planters + congregations.

The branding on the research journal caught my eye. "Future useful." Funder wants learnings that will serve the wider sector :). Future useful indeed!

Trumps Liberation Day was start of April. GDP figures are for April to June. Still doesn’t explain why NZ contracted and other oecd countries (bar Canada) expanded

Tariff argument makes no sense given that other countries have done better in the same quarter.

NZ -0.9%

Australia 0.6%

China 1.1%

Japan 0.5%

United Kingdom 0.3%

United States 0.8%
