His use of ‘scold’ is… gendered. Environmental activism, climate awareness, change? This small verb minimises some of the greatest challenges of our time. As if he made the great and bold Greta Thunberg into a daughter mimicking her suburban mom, telling you to pick up your laundry off the floor.

He says he’s not clear about what Europeans would defend themselves for. It’s refreshing to read this, because I totally believe him. He definitely doesn’t understand European values.

Jokes often illustrate the speaker’s worldview. He chose the binary of the young girl and the middle-aged man, as if the hard truth of climate change was not an impactful message because of the body and gender of the young female person delivering the message. I think this is his humour.
