The President has money to fund SNAP. In fact, he’s required to fund the program. But he refuses to, in an attempt to force a false choice between food for those who need it and affordable healthcare for those who need it. This isn’t leadership. It’s evil.
Food banks across the U.S. were stretched thin even before the federal government shut down. Rising food prices had driven a growing number of people to their doors. Cuts to federal programs had left them with less to give. Now, that system is anticipating an even greater surge in demand.
Food Banks in U.S. Brace for Surging Demand as SNAP Aid Cutoff Looms
Growing need and decreased resources are squeezing the charitable food system beyond its capacity, leaders say.

In case you’re wondering, I never trust men who say “I’m sincerely curious….” They’re obviously not.

Also, very creepy that you saw me on the news and felt it was your right to stalk me on social media and send me a direct message.

Trump's Big Ugly Law will kick 17 million Americans off their health care.

44% of our neighbors here in Philly count on Medicaid.

Even if you aren't on Medicaid, these cuts will force health centers, nursing homes, and hospitals to close.

It's just plain wrong.
Yesterday, the Senate passed this bill. It now goes back to the House. Call your Representative and tell them to vote NO.

Key word: “appear.” It’s not actually cheaper. They’re just playing with accounting tricks.
The Senate took Trump's tax plan and made it appear nearly 90% cheaper.

Republicans changed how its cost was calculated in a way that would omit the estimated $4.2 trillion the plan would add to the national debt.
Senate excludes trillions in debt to make Trump’s tax bill seem cheaper
Traditional estimates say that Trump’s tax package will add about $4 trillion to the national debt. Senate Republicans have slashed that number by changing the way Congress does its accounting.

It's not talked about as often as some of the other provisions, but the Big Bad Budget Bill currently in the Senate offers $200 billion in tax breaks for sending jobs and profits overseas. Just one of the many, many, many problems in this bill.

It's a little past Juneteenth, but Facebook reminded me of this blog from a few years ago. It's very relevant in the face of the continued fight for reparations, the backlash to racial progress, *and* the Bad Budget Bill that threatens to set us even further.

Here's the truth about tax cuts for the rich.

They explode the federal debt, fuel giant profits at the biggest firms and financial institutions, and stoke a surge in billionaire wealth but do nothing for average working people.

Nothing trickles down.

From the Catechism: "The citizen is obliged in conscience not to follow the directives of civil authorities when they are contrary to the demands of the moral order, to the fundamental rights of persons or the teachings of the Gospel."
