SUVs increase the odds of killing in a collision. They're high at the front, your children get dragged under then crushed to death. They're also too big for parking spaces. They shld just be treated like vans, subject to lower speed limits, higher parking charges. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Please, for the love of God, stop buying supersized cars | Arwa Mahdawi
Why would anyone want a car that’s too big for parking spaces, or that’s a menace to other road users? Arwa Mahdawi has a theory

⏰ Time to set those alarm clocks! ⏰

A lunar eclipse will be visible from the UK tomorrow – and no specialist equipment is needed!

The fascinating spectacle will begin shortly before 04:00 GMT but the best time to see it will be around 06:20 GMT, before the Moon sets.

The techniques to do this have been around for years. It's technically proficient but not any great accomplishment. And we minimise animal use in biological research to reduce suffering. SO WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU WANT A HAIRY MOUSE.

2/2...It's a very easy read without jargon and, unusually for anything written about railways, very few acronyms (VFA).
Maybe you're organised and all your Christmas shopping's done, buy a copy as a gift for yourself!

I'm only thirty pages into @garethdennis.bsky.social How The Railways Will Fix The Future but I can already recommend it as a last minute Christmas gift for the general reader as well as anyone with a passing interest in railways, history...(1 of 2)

Wow! I've spent so many evenings in The King's Head, the best pub in Deal (a town that has A LOT of pubs)

When the first kid arrived I got rid of the car. Sink or swim! Learned how to use the busses (it wasn't so easy in 2006!) and used hire cars for holidays. Otherwise we did not go to places where there was no public transport. My three kids are all proficient in public transport.

Are we doing music here? #futureoftheleft at The Fleece, Bristol last Sunday. Audience singing along joyfully most of the time, good job Falco couldn't hear us 😀

If only booking trains across Europe was as easy as booking a flight. We did London to Verona and back over the summer, I was only stressed out about the journey for the whole ten weeks between booking and traveling. And the whole holiday.

This graph is astonishing. The people that bang on about “natural birth” and “women have been doing this forever without help” need to be forced to stare at this until their eyes water.
Graph of maternal mortality rate against year for the UK. Rate bounces until and down around 500 deaths per 100,000 births until about 1940, when it falls sharply. It’s been very low (~1–3 per 100,000) ever since.

a Dr wept as they talked of Covid and avoidable deaths if government had not been so criminally incompetent. Unlike health secretary, he didnt get cash for going on a TV reality show, unlike ex PM he isn’t on front of daily mail with a highly paid column
