“If you make statements that right-wing politicians don’t like, then you can lose your job. Period. That is chilling” — Isaac Kamola of the @aaup.org Center for the Defense of Academic Freedom and Faculty First Responders, which provides peer-to-peer support for professors who have been targeted.
How Charlie Kirk’s Professor Watchlist reshaped free speech on campus
Experts say the project laid the groundwork for subsequent attempts to limit what professors and teachers say in the classroom.

The only thing I have to add to the conversion therapy case commentary is Sedgwick’s quote from the 1993 essay Queer and Now.

One of the most consequential days of my academic life has arrived. I am finally off the waiting list and can now park in the lot that is always empty right next to my building.

Trump's higher ed ransom note is here - everyone would have to acquiesce to their unprecedented demands or not be "given priority for grants," plus they can demand "reimbursement" for "violations" www.wsj.com/us-news/educ...

The Trump administration has laid it out: comply with their ideological agenda or else…

This is how we lose free thought in American higher education.

The compact would require colleges to…cap the enrollment of international students + commit to strict definitions of gender…universities would also be required to change their governance structures to prohibit anything that would ‘punish, belittle + even spark violence against conservative ideas.’”

Journalism and teaching are some of the most valuable yet thankless jobs in our society. I want to thank everyone who wakes up in the morning excited to teach others or inform their fellow humans for terrible pay.

Some problems have simple solutions. This new “Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education” is one. The answer is simply saying no.

Simple does not mean easy. But Brown, Dartmouth, MIT, Vanderbilt, Univ of AZ, UPenn, USC, UT Austin & UVA must understand what they’ll lose if they sign on.

Some schools will be starved of resources. Other schools will be offered bribes. The end goal is the same. To make the universities an extension of the Trump administration. Shame on any of these institutions willing to take the bribes.
Letters on Wednesday were going out to solicit agreement and feedback from Vanderbilt University, Dartmouth College, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Southern California, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Texas, the University of Arizona, Brown University and the University of Virginia, according to an administration official.

Pressure to reject the compact should come from all sides:

Alumni, students, current employees, AND anyone who engages with people or work from the institution, high school students looking to attend, etc.

We say NO.
