Houselessness is a major problem in Canadian cities. It's an election issue in Edmonton & Calgary, & was 4 yrs ago too. But sprawl & greenfield (farmland) development are also undesirable. Turns out George Carlin found the solution ages ago:

And now, pipeline proponents want to secure new land for non-Indigenous interests, all over again.

(I'm ok with a pipeline, so long as it goes through settler population centres, not Indigenous territories or wildlife refuges, & doesn't require new risks to Orca & other sea populations).

Those of us who went to university frm social-cultural contexts with zero experience with postgraduate (university or college) studies, who fought family's & community's stigma against PSE, benefitted enormously from the recognition of class issues & special guidance given to 1st gen learners

So, in a conversation yesterday with a municipal councillor from a town not far from Edmonton, I was told that "bicycle infrastructure was anti-Albertan because cycling for transportation was anti-oil industry."
I'm still trying to understand such fragility.

Electric bicycles, and shared electric bicycles in particular, are a revolutionary transportation technology. Forward-looking cities should be building out the infrastructure necessary to make cycling safe and convenient for everyone who wants to do it.

i recently got a great deal on a barely used folding ebike and i have to say it has revolutionized my train travel. i can get from my front door to the amtrak station in a little less than 5 minutes!!!
