i’m a hobbyist artist and i love elves 🧝

i get to draw less than i’d like due to work, but i post a lot of wips and progress shots, and OC brainrot, my own and others’ 🥹 i like sketchy concepts and messy rp scene renditions best, but there’s the occasional finished render…

So much of my work for others involves conversations about intent, tone, emotions and feelings that come from the client themselves. That I then do my best to empathise with in the art. Robot vomit doesn't tell me what a clients inspiration is coming from. There needs to be that human connection.
Anyone who supports this is an embarrassment. "Instead of typing it out they'll generate their idea"? Are you insane?

Call yourself whatever you want but you aren't creatives, that's for sure.

Oh, it's just incredible and effortless how Kristen Stewart dismantles and diagnoses the pathology and ego of Brando (and... well, all the dudes in Hollywood) here. www.youtube.com/shorts/_h-iK... There's just so many parallels to tech in this. And I'm so glad she's solid in herself to just SAY it.

I will also say, this is in contrast to a guest lecturer we had who arrived, said “98% of working artists are making shit, so 98% of students are making shit, I’m here to talk to the 2% who care about making good work.” and proceeded to tell us the most unhinged stuff.

I’m proud to be ‘shit’.
The very first lecture I had at art school, told us that we weren't there to learn to make beautiful images. We were there to learn to communicate ideas. (That could sometimes be beautiful but also not.)

If we wanted to make "soulless beauty" we were pointed to the door.

This was 20 years ago.

Anyway. I'm just an animator but I love the work you all do. We make the stuff move, but great concept art inspires the movement, the vibe, the passion.

You are organic idea factories, and your work must be protected at all costs. Our art is empty without your art to guide it.

We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists who are currently or have previously worked in game development about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.

I smack you with Claire Hummel's immaculate and detailed understanding of costume design, which she got by studying historical references, which made her strong, which you will not become by relying on AI
