We’re nearly done with Halloween building, and probably for the best. I’m burning myself out. I’d love a weekend to just unwind and catch up on reading and spooky movies.

I don’t get it all! But Parfumo reviews are rife with comparisons. I don’t think they’re very similar at all. I like Angel’s Share, but I will swoon over incense and iris any day!

Any begonia people know if the ferox requires super high humidity? For reference, I have a brevirimosa in ambient humidity (near a small humidifier) and it’s doing just fine.

I want a ferox but I don’t have space for a cabinet or large terrarium. 🥲

Ah, that sucks. I admit I blind bought my Zaras to avoid the mall. 😂 I’ve had luck by checking the perfumers. Majestic Green, Imperial Purple, (both sadly discont) & Antique Brown are my favorites.

For iris - have you tried the Givenchy Gentlemen line? They’re unisex to me and all feature iris.

It’s really lovely and it’s finally cool enough here to wear. Gourmands are a hard sell for me, but this feels a lot more incense/iris forward with a bit of spiced orange chocolate. Excellent cold weather fragrance for about $30.

#SOTD is Sand Desert at Sunset by Zara, which earned me a compliment from my assistant.

Unfairly compared to Angel’s Share, Sand Desert is a more wood/incense forward gourmand. Lightly spiced bitter chocolate blended with an almost effervescent powdery iris and bright incense.

Scent notes for Sand Desert at Sunset: tonka, chocolate, cinnamon, cedar, frankincense, orange, iris.

I do think this would be a little better with a particularly green/herbal gin, but all I have on hand is Flora Adora and Oasium, so next time I restock.

The olive oil is such a fun addition. I have some flavored oils that would be very fun to experiment with.

2oz vodka (could use gin, but I’m out)
0.5oz dry vermouth
0.75oz olive brine
Generous pinch of dry ground pepper

Shake, garnish with a drizzle of olive oil and olives.
